Can anyone give me some information of treating ringworm.

I suspect my horse may have it although god knows where he caught it from.
He had a couple of marks on his neck which looked like horse bites (constantly plays in the field so this is common) however they did not disappear (around 4 weeks) now he has more over him and the hair is coming out of them and he is itchy.
I am on a small yard 6 horses in total and he has been out with two daily.

What do you advice I use to treat this? Stop it spreading?
I am reluctant to get the vet out if this can be treated easily with over the counter products

Imaverol from the vet - prob dont need to get the vet out to get hold of some and think you can buy it ion internet. Treat lesions every 3 days - 4 treatments in total. Disinfect everything including tack, stable, wooden fences with virkon or trigeine - isolate your horse from the others to stop it spreading though if your horse has had it for a month and has been sharing a field with 2 others in that time then they are either not susceptable to it or have it but not yet showing symptoms.

Oh really that's good to know.
Now do I disinfect everything while I am treating him or when it has started to clear up, rug and tack in particular I worry would just get reinfected?
Also how long does it take to get better.

I am concerned keen to get this under control as soon as possible as a couple of the horses on the yard are due to go out to their first event of the season in April and I would hate for this to stop them

disinfect everything now and every week for the next few weeks just to make sure its gone - especially the woodwork where it can lie dormant for a year!

the immaverol should clear it up in about a week - the hair will grow back within a month. The horse will stop being contagious once there are no scabs/blisters,crusts - usually after 2/3 treatments.

Thanks very much for the advice I will treat as you suggest. However do you really tend to get the rugs cleaned every week?
