The lady that has our boy on loan (daughters pony, lost interest but me, non horsey mum cant bear to sell him, got sooo attached to him) has just told me that she feels that he ringbone ( as her previous horse had it) and seems by the shape on his leg, has had it for years and he has just started to buck. I am so gutted to think he is in pain ( he is 9) and we will lose him.

Looking in to ringbone, does this mean that our boy will be not be able to lead a normal life anymore ? Or god forbid, he has to be PTS.

Vet is due tomorrow.
Any suggestion would be a great helpThanks
Mandy

Ringbone is a form of arthritis - and won't necessary mean retirement for your horse. You're going to be there when the vet comes to look at him I assume, so he should want to x-ray to form a firm diagnosis.

As for the bucking - if this is out of character, make sure there's nothing going on with his tack that could be causing it.

Its so devastating when you find out your horse has ringbone. Mine was also diagnosed age 9. We had to take things much easier but he remained in light work for another 10 years - we had a fab time! Funrides, bits of jumping and some schooling. I did have to have him put to sleep age 18 and am still gutted about it but i gave him the best life i beleive i could have. He was on one bute every other day and then the last year one a day which kept him sound enough to be happy along with glucosamine and cod liver oil. Good luck - its not all bad news with ringbone.
