..... a horse I rode at the weekend, groomed fussed over etc has now been confirmed as having ringworm.
Luckily havent been in contact with any other horses since but was wondering if any of you have had experiences with this and also has anyone ever caught ringworm from their horse on here?

Have loads of ringworm experience from work. And I can confirm you can catch it, as I have but that is mainly due to my habit of picking scabs, in humans, treatments for athletes feet work wonders! It won't kill you or the horses just is really annoying and spreads very quickly if you are not careful. Malaseb is brilliant for treating it in horses and washing all the horse's gear with Virkon.

Wonderful I have the same scab picking habit! lol
OK thanks for your advice, horses ownver has taken care of that side of it and I may just need to go and buy some athletes foot treatment now!
We think it was caught from a show he went to at the weekend, now it is spreading already so they are taking measures!

I passed ringworm to my dog after contact with an infected horse, however neither me nor my horses caught it. Quite a few other vet students in my year have caught ringworm from animals but I have managed to avoid it (thankfully), and some people I think are more resistant than others.
Unfortunately its one of those things you have to put up with if you catch it - treat with antifungals and wait for it to clear up! Make sure you have hot washed all the clothes you were wearing that day, and then hope and pray you didn't get it. Not sure how long it would take for the lesions to appear though, so keep an eye out.

I think you would see redness by now if you had caught it. I have had it from working at a farm, just stay away from animals untill you are clear I'm afraid. Mine didn't itch or anything so you may not notice unless you really look for the little red rings. It usualy clears up pretty quickly on its own if you are fit and healthy but anti-fungals help. (most anti-fungals are steriod based and I react badly to them so i couldn't use them)
