not sure which she has, so treating as ringworm.

vet has given me a anti fungus wash and granuals to add to her feed.

Have also purchased shapeleys GTM as i understand this is supposed to be very good.

What do i wash her rugs / tack in, and do i have to wash rugs etc every day?

Also how easy do humans get it ? my daughter has close contact with the mare, and i dont particulay want to start getting lumpy scabs on me either!

When we thought my horse had it we soaked her tack etc in Virkon. I should wait and wash her rugs after you have finished treating her. I don't know if humans can get it from horses - I got it from calves.

It's Shapleys MTG and yes it is great for ringworm or rainscald. Povidone Iodine will also kill it. Smother the crusty bits in either and then gently rub off the scabs and then soak in the liquid, should clear it up in 2 or 3 weeks.

Not sure what to wash your rugs in, a fungicide shampoo/detergent I guess.

Yes you can catch it fairly easily - I did; just one ring on my arm and it went away within a couple of weeks with some cream.

Ringworm isn't a huge deal healthwise; but it really is a pain in the butt to have around the place because horses are always rubbing each other so it flits around for some time unless you come down on it heavily. It's very contagious.

both ringworm (fungus) and rain scald (bacteria) are zoonotic. so the animals should be handled with gloves and clothing should be changed before coming into contact with other animals.

We recently had a horse come back with suspected ringworm which the lady had treated for ringworm even tho it wasn't confirmed. We had our vet look at it and took scappings - which came back not active. But I now have one on my hand. This was 3 weeks ago and mine only came out last weekend! It stated with couple of small blistery type spots which I thought was a heat rash! Because of where it is i'm having to wear a big plaster to cover it and at min its just getting bigger! Not sure exactly what I caught it from a rug, her yard or what but its a pain in the bum! My sister, my OH and her OH have all had the same amount of contact with the horse and his rugs etc at home and they haven't caught it! Just annoyed the lady didn't tell me until I loaded him in our lorry after a 1 and half hour drive!

we've just had ringworm at our yard and my new horse came last week and bought it back!!! (long story) but we used virkon and as it was such a big yard had stuff outside each stable to dis-infect all forks/brooms etc and weren't allowed to take wheel barraows into stables. no sharing of numnah's tack anything like that- i suggest your daughter stays covered up. \Also you can put cream on the ringworm to stop them scratching and basically just to treat it. x
