Has anyone got any tips for Ringworm. I bought a bridle off Ebay and now my horse seems to have developed huge itchy bald patches on his head! He has had ringworm before when he was young which cleared up with Grisufluvin, however, that was expensive and I was just wondering if anyone has any top tips to get rid of it.

Just get some purple spray with iodine in it , give the area a good wash first, and clip hair and keep applying spray, do not groom that area so to lessen the spores spreading!

Imaveral is effecive and easy to use - mix it with water in a big spray bottle and spray it on twice or 3 times a week and clears up in a few weeks.

A small bottle is quite expensive - over £10 I think, but you only need a tiny amount as it is dilued 50:1

I've always been told not to put purple spray on it, but I could be wrong. zinc suppose to be needed but Nothing really gets rid of it quickly though. sorry not to be any more help.

I had a horse come into the yard with ringworm in the summer and we washed it twice a week in Imaverol which did nothing and so we treated it with human athletes foot cream on the advice of our vet - I think it was called Daktarin. The cream stayed on well and it cleared up in about two weeks. Obviously the horse was isolated and nothing else caught it.

Ringworm will clear up on its own if left untreated so it is a bit hit and miss with any of the cheaper creams.

Just make sure you keep him away from evertything else - it's v contagious!

oo - just read that back and it sounds like I was telling you not to treat it! I didn't mean that, of course.

Just be careful as you can get it as well. I've had it before - caught from a horse. Use either canesten cream, athletes foot cream or tea tree cream. They all work. I would treat it as it can spread.
