Any ideas for ringworm. My new horse has just started to develop small leisions on his flanks and i'm almost certain it's ringworm. I've heard just using an atheletes foot cream should help clear it up. Is this true?

Yes that works very well BUT it is an expensive way to try to deal with ringworm. If your horse only has a few little lesions then you may be able to deal with it effectively and quickly before it spreads so wouldn't work out too expensive. Povidone Iodine kills ringworm too, again good for small areas if caught early, however if it starts to take over then you will want to get some Imaverol from your vet. Be very careful to glove yourself when dealing with it as you can catch it too.

The chemist. Or you can usually get regular iodine from your agricultural merchant/tack shop?

Ringworm is highly contagious so do be aware of that.

My old mare caught ringworm last year and my vet prescribed some powder to put in her food for 5 days (sorry cant remember what it was called) and that cleared it up completely and the bald patches had started to grow hair back within 2 weeks and none of the other horses caught it and they were all living out in the same field.
If no-one else can remember the name of the powder pm me and i will ask my vet tomorrow

My boy caught ring worm last year and I used Imaverol prescribed by the vet to treat it. It took a couple of weeks to clear up and he was quarrantined during his treatment and for a period afterwards. Make sure you disinfect everything thoroughly, I used virkon to do this, it's just so flipping contagious! Good luck.
