Am moving my horses up to our new house in the next fortnight. The field has an enormous amount of grass in so we asked the next door farmer to put some stock in it to mow it down a bit.

He kindly put around 20 heffers in there on Saturday. Didnt really pay much attention to them until this afternoon when I was out in the garden and a couple wondered over to investigate. When they got close I saw that a couple had a crusty rash around their eyes. it might not be ringworm but i suspect it is.

So what the hell do I do now? How long do things like gates, fences etc remain contagous?

Thanks.

Lol!! The calves can benefit if you can get near them... Never tried vinegar on a gate post but why not? Humans too and the hosses if you find a patch. :D

oh the calves can get knotted!! Had an op 3 weeks ago so im not into cow wrangling at the moment!!

I have a tb which catches everything going and shes meant to be going away for schooling in a month or two so i really hope she doesnt get it!

How long does it take to clear up if she does get it?

Mine got it, tiny patch on her muzzle, we caught it straight away and treated it and the hair was growing back in about 4 weeks.

Ring worm has a bit of a stigma.

It is just a fungal infection. Tt is not that bad. It clears up quickly when treat it just sometimes takes a while for the hair to grow back.

It is contagious I caught it of my horse!!! but trust me it is not as bad a people make out. Dont panic x

Yes it isn't that bad. I have also had it handling cows. It hurts bait mind. But clears very easily. I just used dettol and vinegar. Vinegar to kill the fungus and dettol to help peel the scab off.
