Thank you to everybody who has been so supportive when I have posted on here regarding our family's German shepherd - i am afraid that although the vets have battled gamely in their fight to discover what is wrong with her, i have just found out that she had a massive seizure this morning, and they only just managed to rescusitate her. My mum, aunt and nan are on their way up there now to say their goodbyes - the vets are trying to keep her alive long enough for them to get there, but then they will have to let her slip away.

Awwwwwwwww! She looks lovely! It must be heartbreaking for you. She will be happy chasing balls in the big kennel in the sky where she will no longer be a poorly puppy. Big hugs xx

Lend Me a Pup

I will lend to you for awhile,
a pup, God said,
For you to love him while he lives
and mourn for him when he's dead.

Maybe for twelve or fourteen years,
or maybe two or three
But will you, 'till I call him back,
take care of him for me.

He'll bring his charms to gladden you
and (should his stay be brief)
you'll always have his memories
as solace for your grief.

I cannot promise he will stay,
since all from earth return
But there are lessons taught below
I want this pup to learn.

I've looked the whole world over
in search of teachers true
And from the folk that crowd's life's land
I have chosen you.

Now will you give him all your love
Nor think the labour vain,
Nor hate me when I come
to take my Pup back again.

I fancied that I heard them say
"Dear Lord Thy Will be Done,"
For all the joys this Pup will bring,
the risk of grief we'll run.

We'll shelter him with tenderness
we'll love him while we may
And for the happiness we've known
forever grateful stay

But should you call him back
much sooner than we've planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes,
and try to understand.

If, by our love, we've managed,
your wishes to achieve
In memory of him we loved,
to help us while we grieve,

When our faithful bundle
departs this world of strife,
We'll have yet another Pup
and love him all his life.

nijinsky....i dont know what to say. you have just given me the release i needed, i havent cried so hard since my horse died, and i wrote a poem for him....what a beautiful piece of writing. when they've brought her back, and buried her, i'm going to print off a copy and frame it, and give it to my aunt. i think, in the long run, it helps to have something like that. its beautiful.

So sorry to hear she lost the fight. What a beautiful Shepherd. I still miss my old girl every day, lost her from cancer in August last year. RIP Ava Loo, hugs to you and your family.x

Ava passed away peacefully about 2 hours ago, in the arms of the people who loved her. i only hope that the vets may have learnt something from her terrible ordeal, and that they can help the next poor pooch who is suffering in a similar way.

Am so so sorry to hear of Ava............a super friend and am so sad to hear she lost her battle. Keep her memories safe and close to your heart, our dogs mean so so much to us all and its always so very sad to hear when we lose our best friend. xx Take care
