On Monday Bracken went to sleep for the last time. She was 16 and had arthritis in her spine. She had been well, enjoying her walks right up until a week ago but in the last week had started to suffer. I miss her terribly, luckily the other two don't seem to be to bothered. I know the saying 'better a week to early than a week to late' but it doesn't make it easier. On Sunday I cooked a extra amount of roast so on Monday she had a roast dinner (much to the others disgust) went for a little tootle in the woods then we said our goodbyes and I held her as she went. Miss you Brack, stoopidest dopiest dog ever xxx

I'm so sorry to read your sad news, what a gorgeous girl. It is the hardest thing isn't it, even when they have had a such a long and happy life.

My goodness me, what a gorgeous looking girl and a fantastic photo for you to enjoy during this very difficult time. You are right, better a month too early than a day too late, and although you are really hurting right now, you don't sound at all like the sort of person who would see a dog suffer for even a second. Just look at the wonderful memories you must have. These will make you smile eventually, honestly...gentle hugs to you and cuddle up to your other dogs, and let them know that everything will be OK. They may not be showing their sadness, but who knows what they're thinking.

Oh bless you. She was beautiful and you have done absolutely the right thing for her, despite your own pain. Big hugs xxxxx

Thankyou. I know it's the right thing and up until the moment, I did wonder if it was time but once she went to sleep I knew it was right and there was a sense of relief that she wouldn't suffer. The vet was only about 12 (maybe I'm getting old) and I've not seen her before but she was brilliant. I'd seen her on the Friday and she'd given her a steroid jab to make her comfortable which seemed to work for 24 hrs. But she agreed with me that at the age of 16 she was never going to get better and it would just be a case of making her comfortable. She made a horrible decision much easier. Which reminds me, I must stick a thank you card in the post !

Hugs to you what a beautiful photo of a happy chilled out girl she must have had a lovely life with you and 16 is a great age. Hug your other two tight and smile at her memory she looked a lovely girl.

Ah, what a lovely picture. It's so hard saying goodbye, but you did the right thing and it sounds like she had a great life.

When I lost my little dog a month or so ago, someone told me that dogs don't die, they just go to live in our hearts and the pain you feel in your heart is them wagging their tail. In a few weeks when you get used to the feeling of them wagging in your heart it will start to hurt a bit less x

Such a sad time for you and I admire your bravery, I hope to be able to do whats right by my dog when the time comes also.
It sounds as though she had a lovely life with you.

Big hugs X
