Don't know why I'm on here typing this as it seems stupid, but this morning Dougal had to be put to sleep after breaking his canon bone.
He was not in his field this morning we don't know why, possibly let out last night as the gate was shut last night. I can't remember this am whether open or shut but either way it doesn't matter. Him and Twiggy were found by a neighbour and put in a field, but by the time I had found out where they were he had broken his leg. I guess he was just running about being silly as only he could and misjudged a turn or stop. It was awful, I would wish that on no one. It was v bad, compound fracture. The vet came and she put him to sleep straight away. He had his 8th bday on the 10th of june and I had owned him a year on the 8th of june. He was one in a million horse, I got told yesterday by my dressage instructor that he was going to be a super star once we got his teenage moments sorted.
It was not a fitting end for him, and I don't think I had cried so much in all my life. Twiggy is O.K, she stood by him when it happened and is in her stable back home now until we move her to a friends tonight so she is not on her own.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it seems better to tell people than sit at home and beat my self up about it.
RIP Dougal 10th June 2001 - 29th June 2009
His first ever XC
I would love you to send you Vibes or Prayers to Twiggy as I don't want her to pine.
Thanks for being such a wonderful forum with all the help you gave me over him and Twiggy. I will miss him so much, cut down in his prime.
