Great horse, who had a fantastic retirement at the National Stud in Ireland.

Don't know if this will work as an image, but it's a pic of him there.

I know, he was a real favourite of mine, and I'm very sad he'd died, especially in this way, but I'm pleased that he got to enjoy his retirement, and that his needs were met when it mattered most.
At least not all racehorses get thrown in the bin when they stop racing eh?

RIP to a super horse. While very sad that he succumbed to disease it is nice that he has not been very ill for too long and was in great form up to now

That is so sad. Was just reading about him in today's Racing Post. What a grand horse he was, and so handsome. That's a lovely picture of the two of them. A real favourite of mine, and a really gutsy racehorse,
RIP Florida Pearl, thank you for the memories xx

I am privileged to be a member of staff at Sweet Wall stud, we stood Florida Son, sire of Florida Pearl, indeed I drove the lorry which took Florida Pearl as a foal to the sales, I was quite happily heading to Goffs! when the groom with me woke up, just as we approached Dublin " where are we" " on the road to Goffs" said I, " we are going to Tatts" said he....panic, in those days we had no mobile phones, so I pulled up at the first pub we came to, and rang Tatts to say, we have gone wrong way, we are now back on track, thankfully my boss Mrs Patricia MacKean forgave me, and Pearl went on to be the great great horse he became. We went to watch him down south, and I learnt never to back him, as if I did the poor man never won!! We went to watch him in the Lexus, spent race with my face buried in the shoulder of a poor man next to me and he won.
Many were the times, that Colin Mckeever, Lindsay Leitch, me and the rest of the team watched the television in the tack-room at Sweet Wall as he tried his best to win the Gold Cup, but the era he raced in, contained the best of the bests. Gallop on in heaven Pearl.

What a lovely tribute, and how honoured you were to have known him.
Thanks :)
