Sad to hear of Gizmo's death..
He and Dolly used to call to each other when kt was having lessons with Peter..Two chestnut Hanovarians, what a lovely foal that would have made!
such a shame always thought he was something special and remember watching in sheer awe at his 50+ one time changes in a row in his Kur at the nationals a year or two ago.
The first time I saw him in the flesh I hadn't seen Peter ride for twenty years or more, and he got him out to show me what he had achieved.
It was a crisp winter's morning and I sat inside the huge arena on a step, and watched for 40 minutes as he rode him.
For me who finds writing easy I am finding it hard to describe what I saw, the partnership between that horse and him was something I have only ever witnessed between truly great riders such as Michael Whittaker
Gizmo came out and literally melted into submission, I genuinely felt if Peter has said "Stand on your head" that horse would have had a damn good go at it.
Within a matter of minutes it was like watching a performance that took your breath away, if he went even half as well in competitions it would have been magic.
I am not ashamed to say I cried it moved me so much, to achieve that level of communication without any barriers is something I will carry with me for ever.
I videod some of it and will probably put it on a dvd and send it to Peter, it showed their partnership was based on mutual liking not force.
Apparently the horse was a pussy cat for P to hack and he had taken him down to the local pub and drunk a pint sitting on him, reins resting on his neck,he was however a sod for the grooms to hack out!
It's a young age for a stallion to go, but he had a happy life, always the best of care and the best stable on the yard!
How do you follow a horse like that, there are bigger moving horses about, but with that temperament?
