Today with the sun on his back and his belly full Luca went to join his little brother in the pasture in the sky.

He was a big horse with a heart of gold - full of mischief - cheeky but kind. He loved nothing more than his chin being scratched whilst he nearly took your shoulder off by resting in it... He'd had a hard time before he came to me, and was never really right, but for a year I was blessed with knowing a horse that taught me emotions are powerful and must be under control around horses, that gentleness and paitence will get you miles and the joy of seeing an animal learn to love and trust people.

He helped me through the loss of River with love and devotion, and I will forever be grateful to his big ginger heart. He was the most sensitive horse I've ever dealt with and his lessons will shape the future for me...

So join me in raising a glass to Luca De Carlo - a horse in a million, with a heart of gold.

It was the yard joke - started by my OH that he was proof you couldnt have beauty and brains! He was stunning and sweet but barely ever knew where his head or feet were and got confused at the simplest things...

I will miss him dreadfully though - he taught me SO much and boy did he used to make me laugh... I like to imagine him meeting up with River now and 'wheelbarrowing' him like he used to... that brings a smile through the tears.

Thank you all - your kind words mean the world...

Remember to give your neds a big kiss tonight and tell them you love them - you never know when they may be gone.

RIP Luca De Carlo. Run free.
((((((((hugs))))))))) to you. What a handsom boy he was and how Lucky he was to find you. Someone who loved and cared for him so much.

So very sorry (((hugs))) thats a lovely tribute to him and gosh he really was a real ginger, hence his name I guess.

Keep your chin up matey and remember the good times.

Kenzo - yes Ginger as they come! And a typical Ginger too - very sensitive skin and well - opinionated! Wouldn't have changed him for the world, and despite the pain right now I wouldn't have missed out on the last year and a bit - well maybe the trip to A&E but not the rest of it. Some horses teach you so much - and he really taught me.

Holding onto the good memories - like getting to the yard early one summers morning when they were on over night turn out to find River and Luca fast asleep - Luca using Riv as a pillow!!! They loved each other dearly - a very odd combination of little and large - but he gave Riv a new joie de vie that summer and I'll treasure those memories of them playing.
