Today, my best friends dog, Kalli passed away in her sleep. She was 14 and had such a long and happy life.

I don't know why I'm posting really, but she was my adopted dog, I used to baby sit her when they went away and look after her. I guess I'm just sad and shocked but I knew deep down it was coming. We were just preparing to phone the vets today but she made the decision for us.

Kalli used to hate me, she really did but then Kalli hated most people and things but gradually I built her trust with treats and love and attention and we were friends at the end.

We buried her in my friends garden, with all of her "people" around her.

I'm just so sad, she was the last greyhoundy thing I had in my life and now I'm surrounded by terriers!

RIP Kalli Dawg, you will be missed.

Sorry for your loss and also for your friend.

My best friend and I have always treated each other's dogs as an extension of our own packs - like Kalli once was, her boy doesn't really like me and mine doesn't particularly like her (they're both spoiled boys who think their mammies are 'theirs') but we'd both be gutted if anything happened to either of them. And we've cried together over dogs that have passed over the years.

So sorry, I hope you and your friend find some comfort in the fact she died in her sleep, its what we would all like for our dogs but sadly I think most have to make the decision to pts. RIP Kalli.

Thanks all. That's what it was CC, an extension of my pack and we've cried together many a time over the dogs. Friend seems to be doing okay today
