I know this should be in dogs, but since i've never actually ventured in there now does not seem the time. I had my 5yo deerhound X put to sleep today, it came completly out of the blue, and has yet to sink in properly. The house now seems very quiet and empty. On saturday he went out for his walk, and being part deerhound, he chased a deer. He eventually returned home hoping on 3 legs. Over the evening the leg swelled, so first thing Sunday morning we took him to the emergency vet. They thought it was a bad infection from a cut in his paw, so had lots of antibiotics and painkillers. Today Rang was still no better, so took him to our own vet, who immediatly took admitted him for an xray. The xray found my poor dog had bone cancer and his bone had been eaten away, and resembled a mush. The vet said they could amputate the leg and put him on a course of chemo, but them we would be looking at a maximum of 6 months if he was lucky. So we made the decision to have him pts. As soon as he saw me he started crying and he was put to sleep in my arms. My poor poor big dog, he was the most loyal and gentle dog in the world. He was my best friend. I no longer know what to write, I can't belive what has happened over the last few hours. I am in a complete state of shock.
So RIP my bestest friend, we had 5 happy years together.
