Long story short but i really needed to get it out...
I brought o.b in 2011 after i wished to move up to bigger BS tracks and other pony was unable due to hock arthritis. We did a few BS shows some going really well with wins and others me ending up on the floor:rolleyes:
In 2012 we moved yards and from febuary he had spent most of 2012 in work then out of work, first due to a corn in his hoof then it came back, next he bruised soles. After slowly coming back into work again he slipped when trying to get out the field and rotated:eek: causing him to be out of work again and lots of visits from the chiro:eek:. But still the feet seemed to be a big issue, he had pads and then x-rays where the vet at the time said the cause of the bruises and re-occuring corns is due to his pedal bone being at the wrong angle but can be sorted with special shoeing, still wouldn't cure it but he wouldn't be sore.
Then bringing him back into work again he still refused to want to ump even though he had vets, farriers, chiro and new saddle so i put it down to him taking the mickey out of me.. then back out of work for a lovely leg infection causing his leg to triple in size cue me panicing thinking hes done a tendon:rolleyes:.. Now back to square one and bringing him back into work..
In Decemeber i was dignosed with anoxeria having me unable to ride and then at the start of this year i was admitted to a specialist unit leaving me to put O.B on full livery.
I did manage to get a few 5minutes visits, one visit id been imformed his struggling to walk and was very very footsore and the YO would call the vet if no better in the morning. I wasn't there obviously when the vet came but he went back and had a team meeting using O.B's old x rays.. we contacted the vets only to find out he had pedulitous, navicalaur and parmers pro?.My poor pony was pretty much crippled and it was heartbreaking to walk him try to walk:( The vet reconnes he was born with these issues on which is awful and i'm filled with so so much guilt for riding him for his long and i didn't know and all his cheeky pain in the bum makes so much sense..:(
So on the 7th of march 2013 O.B went to rainbow bridge. (Due to me being in the unit) the yard staff treated him to lots of carrots and he went peacefully. He has now been cremated and will be returned back to myself forever
RIP Oberland <3

You poor poor thing. What an honest lovely boy he must have been. At least he is not in pain any more. Other people may have buted him up and sold him on. It just shows though, that horses don't take the pi$$. Usually there is a genuine reason for their behaviour. I hope you get better yourself soon. So sorry xx

So sorry to hear of your loss! I've been going through the same after loosing my mare, it isn't easy but surround yourself with the best people and the pain will ease :)

I don't mean to sound rude, but I knew a horse called Oberland, a chestnut by any chance?

Hugs xx

Did he come from John Whinnett? Such a small world, my OH used to ride him when he worked there! Was one of his favourites and was gutted when he sold, he was the one that rode him for his vetting! Aww poor boy, he will be gutted when I tell him, he was a beautiful boy! RIP OB xx

It is not your fault. Doubtless you were surrounded by experts and experienced people telling you he was taking the P. I feel guilty about the time I let someone ride my mare at a solid canter for around an hour, just because she was under the supervision (was having a lesson with) a qualified instructor and dressage judge. I foolishly thought they must know better than I. My mare's 'wind' has never been quite right since. I feel SO guilty. But what is important is you did the right thing and put him out of his pain.

He was a babe of a horse, will miss spending all my afternoons chasing him around the field trying to catch him so got lots of good memories which is nice.
Farrier was so so kind and made a love heart out of his last shoes..
