Rip off food in members at Burghley Horse Trials

Best thing I ever had at Burghley/Badminton was a venison burger from the estate. £4 = bargain. Burgers from burger van £6.50 and standard catering style ones. Also really liked the paella from the fish shop in the food walk (probably badminton) and had some yummy pies and scotch eggs along the way. Of the "catering" stands (rather than the foodwalk) the mexican one seems to be good and good value too. Would never bother with a burger/bacon roll unless from a special estate, so many more interesting options available.

my family are in the fast food trade and I dont think thats expensive. As a previous poster has said they pay a lot for those pitches. I know to get one in Cheshire Show is about £3k.

If you have a land rover key, go to their hospitality, show your key and get free food and drink, we do this every year at Burghley

We did this, took the whole family, sat comfortably by the lake and were fed very upmarket burgers and were given choice of tea, coffee, water or Belvoir cordials.

Last year the queue was too long, but this year there were never more than a dozen in the queue even at lunchtime! So civilised!

The thing I couldn't fathom at the cheshire show was you could pay £4.50 for a bog standard burger in a bun, or £4.50 for a home made chunky venison burger in a home made crusty fresh bun 2 stalls away. The latter was a bargain, IMO.

To be honest the prices should come as no surprise to anyone, any big event will be the same, and as long as you're not being searched on the way in, taking cereal bars for brekkie and sandwiches for lunch gets around it easily.

I was disappointed with the on course catering this year. I expect to pay out but as there are only 2 of us going now I prefer not to faff around with taking a packed lunch. This year there seemed much less variety in the vans out on course and it was pretty much a case of which van shall I buy a burger from rather than what shall I have for lunch.

I bought a jumbo hot dog from the burger can near cottesmore leap. Mistake, not only was it hideously expensive but it was also rubbish. I think the water content of the hot dog sausage was as high as they could get without it falling apart completely so I was still hungry after eating it
