Had the old men put down yesterday

. They were both in their 30's and unfortunately Cuddles had gotten a large melanoma on his sheath that kept bleeding and was obviously uncomfortable for him made worse with heat and flies. Pickle we felt would only pine for his best friend, also he looked very poor and cushingoid- he had yet to even begin shedding his coat this year so we felt it was best if they went together. Pickles has lived with us his whole life, my mum bought him as a foal and put him in the boot of the car! Cuddles came from the blue cross to be a companion for him. I learnt to sit some mahosive bucks at a very young age as Pickles fulfilled every criteria of the stereotypical shetland breed(!), and we can sit and laugh at the family videos of me trying to put a bridle on him and it ending up wrapped around his legs and me and then my mum running flat out so I could canter on the lead rein! RIP Pickles and Cuddles.

Oh, sorry for your losses but it sounds like you made the right decision to let them go together. They can both romp over the rainbow bridge now x

RIP Pickles and Cuddles. What lucky ponies they were - and what lovely memories you must have.
So sad to lose them but how marvelous to have had them in the first place x

RIP oldies.

What a great owner you are to think so carefully about their quality of life

Totally agree. Although it must have been incredibly sad for you and your family, they genuinely will be resting in peace, or maybe not, should I say causing trouble up there together.

What lucky ponies they were with you as their owner, sounds like you have great memories of them, and I am sure they are both happy together now.

RIP Pickles and Cuddles and thoughts for you.
