I'm looking for a MW turnout that is pretty tough!! I'm fed up of constantly repairing and buying rugs that after a day have been ripped! It's for a tb (it's his field mate that rips them!) so he needs rugging, otherwise I'd have given up ages ago!! He normally wears Horseware rugs but none are tough enough! Any ideas or recommendations are muchly appreciated!!

My lad was turned out with a complete pig of a horse,he didnt play he went for them, bought the rambo supreme,it held up,but have now left yard and on another and am using Premier Equine rugs(cant afford the Rambos anymore),his neighbour has been swinging off the tail flap and any other bits he can grab, the rugs have held up against it all :D Brilliant value for money and amazing fit!

Thankyou, I will try the Premier Equine, is the fit good for a tb?

I was going to suggest Rambo's too so was suprised when you said Horseware. I was buying a new rug about once a fortnight due to my horses 'mate' practically ripping them off him. It broke my heart to pay out for the Rambo's but they are still going strong years later.

I'm a big fan of horseware but the rhino's are stronger than the amigos & the rambos tougher still. Which type are you using?

Basically, all 3types!! The Rambo supreme hw has held up the most, it's 3 years old now but does look like a patchwork quilt! The Amigo's last a couple of days max and I bought a Rhino HW just before xmas and 3 weeks later it was shredded from front to back and filling was all over field!! In total, he has 21 rugs (I actually counted them all today!) and the only rug not ripped is the Rambo Protector which isn't warm enough for him at night!! AAGGHH!! It's such a shame as he's always looked after his rugs but when playing with his field mate, they get a bit carried away!!

I know, I'v always been a Rambo-a-holic!! I just can't justify spending so much when they get ripped so quickly!! Even though I love them so much!!

Could you not get him away from the rug wrecker?I would be fuming if i was shelling out like that on rugs :( I realise horses are horses, but hell, sounds like his mate needs to be out on his own until rugs are not needed! x

Poor rug manufacturers, they can't win!!! ;-)

Rug manufacturers!! No safety breaking point??

cant believe these last 2 weeks, both my mares have injured themselves in exactly the same way, both right hind legs aswell!! 1 got her leg stuck right through her belly strap so that the strap was above her hock and it has rubbed it raw,the other got her foot stuck in belly strap and rubbed raw underneath her fetlock,my question is why dont rug manufactureres make rugs with safety in mind, you would think there would be a safe breaking point!! the metal on the clasps have stretched but all stitching in tact......sorry for the rant, but i have heard several horror stories off people this week about injuries caused by rugs....

I'v tried but they just jump across to each other and would rather the rugs get ripped than them!! I'v only got the two of them also and they're at home so there's no other horses about to swap over!!

They need metal tops and quick release straps LOL! Although i'd rather tighten straps up to prevent this than have straps that broke in case rug shifted and ended up spooking horse even more causing further injury!

I see, pain :(!Aswell if you go on Premier Equine site atm their rugs are in the sale, well worth buying for the price :)

Anything by horseware, I have always found their quality A*, my mare used to like to pull rugs down hanging in her stable and trash them....they were the only ones that survived in one piece! :)

Unfortunately I want anything but Horseware!! They're great rugs and all 21 rugs that my tb owns are Horseware, a mixture of Rambo, Rhino and Amigo but they're all trashed within days of buying and repairing!! Therefore I wondering if there were any other brands out there that are tougher that would fit a tb???

Went on last night! They look nice rugs and at that price I don't mind taking a gamble, they're a good denier too! The only problem is the mw on there has sold out of size I need, a 6"6!! Will keep looking!

Anyone use Shires rugs? I hear they do a 2000 denier, going to look online and see but I can get a 10% discount off them. It's about the fit as well, I find Horseware fit him so well but can't justify buying another £200 rug to be shredded by the weekend!

I have the same problem! However I have just started spraying my horse's rug every couple of days with a dilute mix of Jeyes fluid which it seems his 'playmate' doesn't like!!

So far so good! Might be worth a try.

Oooh! I never thought of jeyes fluid! I used that NAF no bite stuff but when it rained, it all ran down and gave him a rash! Will patch test some diluted jeyes fluid on his shoulder later! Thanks for the advice

I have this problem too. I had a 1600D Premier Equine which I loved and it fitted like a dream, but the tail flap got ripped off and there are a couple of little holes in it :(. The rug trashers in with mine are particularly determined though (and are teaching my horse their rug trashing ways!). I bought a Shires 2000D heavyweight in the winter, and that one survived intact, so big thumbs up. The only downside was that it rubbed my horse's mane a little.
