Very sadly today we found Rain, my mum's 14 yr old Lab drowned in the garden pond (very large garden with huge natural pond).

She was obviously in her last summer, and we were aware that the decision was to be made soon but as she was still mobile, continent and waggy, it was always going to be on another day.

Today she bounced out of her kennel like a puppy and headed off down mum's garden with her pal as they did every day - often they would just roam the 2 acres, have a little swim, chase birds etc all day just off on their missions, and pitch up at the yard next to the garden in the hope of a sandwich around lunch time but we were all out today so didn't notice she wasn't around. Mum went to feed the lot of them (6 inc mine) and Rain didn't come. We all searched and finally found her in the pond. One of the workman on site fished her out and whether true or not he said that she didn't drown as no water came out of her nose. We'd like to think she had a heart attack and fell in.

Her pal is mourning and confused. They haven't spent a night apart in 13 years.

RIP Rain, you had a tough start to life but despite your hang ups you were always a loving and loyal friend x

If no water came out then she wasn't breathing when she went in.. That would be a real comfort to me.

Rip Rain, how terribly sad. Xxxx

Rest in Peace Rain, as someone has already said for a lab going when she was having a sneaky swim meant she went when she was doing something she loved.

A x
