Afternoon,

My rising 3 year old has a slight roach back, I have been hoping it might improve with age and he does still have some growing to do but am wondering if he'll ever be able to be ridden and for any experiences?

This little man had a very bad start (there are some threads from 2012 in my history that explain if anyone wants a look) and because of this I have always wondered of he will ever be rideable. He is going nowhere either way :)

The roach bit is over the lumbar region, dropping away down to his pelvis then back to normal over the sacral region.

Poor baby boy :(

I know some horses who have had ridden careers for their entire working lives with a slight roach back - it completely depends on how bad it is. It really isn't that uncommon, but obviously if you're worried I'd speak to a professional about it. A pic might help people help you x

Should have said the vet looked at him this morning as he was here to do his vacs. He just said it might cause him problems later or he could improve with growth.

I can take a pic but I can't post from my phone :(

i would rather a horse with a slight roach back than one with a dip back. it can sometimes be harder to fit with a saddle and they often find it harder to be supple but its not often they have problems that stop them being ridden
