Hi, just seen a horse that looks and sounds really nice but he says it has roached back, im not really sure what this is but he says the horse is cheap because of thes. The horse used to race and came straight into eventing and he says is doing well and is ready for 1* next year. i am looking for something that will do a 1* next year but also go on 2* + in a few years. Do you think roached back affects their performance as the fences get bigger and do they cause other problems in the future or get worse? the horseis 6. thanks

I've got a friend who owns a horse with a roach back. Hers isn't mega bad, but the cob has a fairly long back so it accentuates it a bit. The only problem she has is that the back of the saddle used to rub, so she had it deflocked in certain areas and used plenty of padding.

The horse doesn't compete much so I can't really say what effect that would have.
