I've read posts saying around £20-30 a ton
But only found £70 :(

Also I am going to have to put it down on 3 inches of mud as it is not my yard so it's difficult to do anything else
What grade should I use?

Thanks

I got mine from a local aggregate supplier - they were £20/tonne but that was around 4 years ago. Depends on the minimum load though - I paid a shade more to get a smaller load. Or ask the men on the roadworks where they send them to - I was told they weren't allowed to sell direct as it is regarded as toxic wasted due to the petrol and diesel residues, but they took them to a local haulage yard here. Still weren't allowed to sell them direct but at least you could ask where they go from there etc.
You could put down crushed concrete as a base layer because planings are heavy and won't go far at over 3" depth - or something else cheap.
Depends where you are but mine came from Lineal in Newport Shropshire

Find out who the local resurfacing companies are and ask them direct. I get mine from our local company and this summer had 20 tonnes for £200.

Re putting on mud, I wouldn't bother! It needs to go down when it's dry and have time to pack down and harden otherwise it just mixes with the mud and makes it worse!

Your highways dept would be the first port of call. Although when we tried our council told us that they didn't sell them anymore but recycled them themselves and used them on the potholes. This was borne out by an aggregate company. We wound up using limestone chippings on our track, purchased from a local quarry.

You will completely waste your time and money putting anything directly onto mud.
To be effective you do need a digger to scrape all mud away down to a firm surface, and best done during a dry period to allow it to bed down. I fear you've possibly left it to late this year.

I bought 20 tonnes of crushed concrete and 20 tonnes of road planings and that cost me £630. You need to have a very thick covering and ideally put some crushed concrete down first if it is particularly boggy.

I waited until the council were doing roadworks outside my yard and asked them to drop it off for me £30 a load I paid at the time ad had 3 loads. However I used it on my drive rather than the gateway and it does need to go down on dry mud as people have said above. Down on a muddy gateway it will just sink and mix in as it's pretty wet if it comes straight off the road.

My gateway I did with crushed MOT type 1 and that was £90 a ton from memory however it again went down on dryish mud and has been absolutely brilliant, haven't needed to top up as yet and this will be it's 3rd winter.
