today i had one of the scariest moments on a horse yet. i was on a hack with my uni riding club, it is arranged through a local polo yard and someone takes a bunch of us out to exercise the polo ponies.

walking towards home on a quiet country road we meet two lorries in either direction, one parks whilst we walk past, fine, whereas the one driving towards us from behind is flying along very fast, i am at the back and so giving him the signal to slow down, which he ignores and literally brakes at the very last minute when he is about 5ft behind me!!!

at this point i am literally screaming stop at him, and the driver is laughing and shouting "get those F**ing animals off the road", revving his engine, still driving VERY close behind me, and still laughing and making very rude signs. eventually he passes very close and then beeps his horn repeatedly.

in my 10 years of riding i have come across the odd car which doesnt slow down etc, but never have i come across absolute malice and intent to cause harm, i was terrified! thank god the horses behaved impeccably otherwise i dread to think what might have happened

unfortunately i was too shell shocked at the time to think about the lorry's reg, however he did turn down to a building site and so i informed the yard of that.

OMG i think i would be terrified to! There so ignorant some drivers! I remmeber when i was on a hack and i was on the saneist pony there! But this car could see us from a mile away and carried on bombing towards us so my mate goes stay in the middle of the road (was so scary and not the best thing to do!) So i did and this driver got so close i mean if id have walked fowrad i would have been on his bonet ! He starting swearing and saying get over and at that point i did because he had stopped but maybe that would have taught him a lesson! The horses at the back where going mad at it to! Was so scary for me worrying about the ones behind and this Bloomin' car!!

Some people are so ignorant it makes me want to scream

People like him shouln't be allowed to get away with it. Do whatever you can to find out who it was, then with all the other people you had as witnesses, there is no way he'll get away with it, lets see who's laughing then!

my old YO got a man sacked for driving in exactly the same manner. He got the company name off the lorry and then rang them up and reported him.Served him right. Most Haulage companies would be appauled by such behaviour and would definitely take action, even if it is just a stern warning it may make him think twice.I would also report it to the police if you can.Even without a reg number if you got the company details they will speak to the company who should know who the driver was just by the location and time.

some guys (myself excluded) are just idiots in cars...but years ago I had a similar occurence which turned out to be the horsey's revenge.
I was hacking along country lanes in with trees either side of the lane where it crosses common land. As I had just rounded a bend I heard a car coming up really fast and breaking hard...my horse shot forward and then lashed out with a back leg....I had my hands full trying to stay on at this point.
Anyway, I spun my head around and was horrified to see my big sj'er had booted a big hole in the side, just behind the front wheel, of a very nice shiny red ferrari !! The driver got out and started to rant..I ranted back for a few minutes pointing out the error of his ways and questioning his parentage, then took off over the common at a good canter (could always have blamed a scared horse!)...strangely Ferarris are not good 4X4's LOL...
Sorry I know I shouldnt have just left the scene, but I thought Knock for Knock..just didnt hack round there for a while...he's probably still looking for me!

It makes me so angry. I was at the back of a ride once on a narrow country lane following close enough for my horse to kick him and revving his engine. Turns out the driver was a local point to point trainer

Can you nip down tomorrow in your own car and snatch a look to see if same lorry is there?
