I really should know this and am pretty sure I can’t go through this road with my 4WD and trailer but can anyone confirm please.
Definitely not a small lorry if I changed transport. IMG_7644.jpeg

It’s really frustrating as am interested in buying a house we’ve seen and the access to the drive isn’t possible as it’s the wrong angle and too narrow. However I can come from the other direction but there is a narrow bridge to encounter with this restriction.

It does say 2 tons unladen weight, so it can't mean including horses etc.

That’s what I’m thinking on reflection. So it may be possible.

It might be possible to get a small lorry and come the easier way as I think I can turn it around to access the property.
Depends how wide they are compared to the car.

This is the offending entrance. It’s about 9ft wide I think.

If you do consider it as a move, do keep in mind that any deliveries you have, will have the same problems accessing the property. We had difficulties recently with someone delivering on a long wheelbase transit (mind you I do think some of that was driver error)

You can make that wider without any problems.

It’s in the Dartmoor National Park , it’s not that straight forward unfortunately.
The obvious is to take out the granite on the left but am sure that’ll be a no no as it’s meant to be a style.
Maybe reduce the right though but it’s a risk so looking at all options.

Could you take away the gate and widen it slightly on that side, and infill the grassy area with a bit of stone? You could put the gate further up the drive if you need it.

Yes that might work. It’s difficult to know without doing a dry run with the trailer !
But it’s something worth considering.

This is a very valid point. Our access track is a tricky beast due to the incline and camber of the surface, its not tarmaced either - only the most daring irish truckdrivers storm their way up it, and always get a tip for trying! 😁
Due to this we get most pallet tonne deliveries delivered to the local shop and we have a 4x4 and ifor williams trailor to pick up all deliveries…feed, bedding etc.

Its annoying really, as it means spending out 20k straight away just to ensure you can pickup heavy goods yourself, as you cant receive kerbside deliveries. Not an ideal situation on a farm/smallholding.
Also it means illness and vehicle breakdown maintenance are issues that possibly prevent going and getting deliveries, which is ok for non-urgent goods, but animal food deliveries are fairly urgent.

Ive been looking at other properties as we may move on, and having kerbside delivery/on farm delivery is something i’ve especially been on the lookout for, because without deliveries to your yard, it really can limit what you buy, in what quantities and from whom. We often can afford bulk deliveries, but can’t get them up here!

Our SWB defender land rover is 2 tonnes on its own. It easily pulls a laden 16’x6’6” cage side ifor trailer (unladen 1 tonne) up hills!

Although the granite is a stile if you moved the gate 50 mtrs down the lane the stile would not need to be there, and if the gate opened and closed freely no stile would be needed. Ring highways (not the Dartmoor national park) at the council and see if the weight restriction is allowed to be ignored for access to a property and not as a throughfare. Does the weight limit only apply to the bridge?
