Off to pick up the new boy....!

I've been pondering on getting a pony, had made a post before xmas....then along came the opportunity to give a boy a home, and a new job... :D

Pics will follow tomorrow night, I am leaving at 5am, and if all goes well, will be back home before dark.

OK, now I've had some tea, a rest and come out of 'Driving Zombie Mode' I can tell you a little bit more about it.

Toby was gifted to me today from a lovely HHO member who was looking to find him a new home...sooooo I was the lucky one and off me and sis-in-law went to fetch him this morning.

It's a fair trek from Lincs to the south coast but we got up at 4am (yikes!) and left just before 5am...

All was going well, tottling along down the A1, then past Stansted, and headed for the M25....BUT the sat nav then decided to have a hizzy at us, and somehow we were headed for the CONGESTION ZONE!!!!!!!!!!! So putting on the 'I'm-really-a-country-girl-and-I-hate-London' mode, dodged nutball drivers and turned us round before we got there...

A nice chap in a garage put us back on the right track and after buying a road map (sat nav is stuck back in glove compartment) we headed towards the M25...

Crossed the awesome Dartford Bridge (or woteva it's called...) and realised then that I have never before, towed the trailer through such heavy traffic, yes, have towed down a few motorways, but this is something quite different and managed to NOT knock anyone off the bridge, and eventually reached our destination. Sausage butties awaited us with a lovely mug of tea, then we loaded Toby up (he did very well, had a good look, then went straight in :D) hugged my new friend Dovorian and off we trundled.

We were doing marvellously until we realised the road we wanted was closed for roadworks so had to cut across country, THEN pick up the A1 and head home...

Over 2 hours later than we planned to arrive home, we got back and led Toby down to his paddock. There was a LOT to look at, but he took it all in his stride, then once he found the grass in his paddock and had said hello to Tia, he trotted about and then started munching.

Just been down now to give him his hay, didn't want to give him any earlier in case he started charging about with being in a new place. He came across to say hello tonight, ate a carrot or two, and started eating his hay.

Will take some pictures tomorrow, and will keep posting piccie updates, can't wait to get his saddle fitted (booking him in on Monday) and next Saturday, will take him for a walk in his bridle up the track when my sis rides one of the others. Will show him a couple of the Trec obstacles that are taking shape in the top paddock too, to see what he makes of those!

Whilt I must confess to a couple of damp tissues... I am so pleased that Toby has a new family and a very exciting future ahead of him!

He may be small but his huge personality will def be missed - soooo excited that he will be doing something which is perfect for his mega brain!!

I would add that the dear soul has, in the last couple of weeks, jumped a five bar gate to leave the school, jumped a 4ft electric fence to see if my neighbour had any apples left in her garden and took my nephew xc through my wood avoiding a rabbit warren in the process! Trec compeitors beware... here comes Toby!

Bouquet to Dragon Slayer and Sis in Law, HUGE drive and plenty of grief on the way.

Toby obviously had a good night as he joined the others in greeting me this morning, and he took meeting lots of people who come to our field in his stride.

He is very friendly and was keen to investigate my pockets as he knew something was in there.....!

He seems to have settled well, and i'm looking forward to getting started with him.

How lovely! What a heartwarming post. Good luck with Toby, sounds like he'll be fun :D

Can't be easy for you Dovorian :( but lovely that he's been rehomed to someone you know, and can get updates and pics from.
 
Yes JS!

I had been pondering for a while about getting a pony again to do Trec on, one of my horses, a mare is 15hh, and I'm quite happy to be closer to the ground again now I'm getting older.....! Tia is now 17, but still full of beans, however, she was diagnosed with arthritis this summer, and it seems to be the summer ground that upsets her, so can't be expecting the poor thing to be doing long distance etc etc that Trec involves, it's just not fair. A member of my family has now taken her on as a share, and she just likes to amble about hacking, so it's all perfect.

Sooooo when this chap became available, I was straight in there to register my interest as it were!

I'm only 5ft 3 tall, and during the summer, had been riding on of my friends (who teaches western) lesson ponies, and loved it, and knew I was destined to get back to ponies!

It was hell of a long trip, but so worth it, he is adorable and cute, I'm very lucky. :D
 
Ooo. That looks fun DS :D

I'm only a short ass too. I don't look particularly big on ponies. I know a lot of people on here think BH is bigger than he is because I make him look huge with my short, midgety legs!

I'll look forward to some Trec updates in the summer :)
