Seen a horse I like the look of, but she is a grade 2 roarer.
As we are happy hackers, how big a problem could this be? At most she
would be expected to do fun rides, we don't gallop about but enjoy a canter on the beach.
Any advice please

Is a tie back an option? Is she perfect in every other way? You need to think about re-sale if you ever had to and the fact that there are a billion others for sale that don't roar. It wouldn't be a deal breaker for me if I was in love with it and it was all but perfect but it would need the appropriate consideration. If there are any other issues then why buy her?

Depends on value really, I know someone who has a horse who roars a bit, they do everything work wise (xc, sj, dr) and it causes no problems, not sure of what grade though.

I think if the horse is right in every other way and there is nothing else out there as nice without any problems and it won't affect what you want to do then not really a problem.

Prob best to seek vet advice on potential issues further down the line

One of my horses roars. It didn't stop her from being quite successful in the jumping ring. I have no doubt in my mind that I managed to buy this horse for at least half of her value had she not been a roarer. This horse will stay with me forever so resale value isn't an issue.

If the seller has priced it right then the resale value shouldn't be an issue as you should be buying it for less than it might be if it weren't a roarer hence you pay less for it now and if you sell it further down the line the sale price should still be in proportion to the price you paid.

Thanks for replies, I haven't seen her yet, just like the advert, she is priced as a happy hacker and I just wondered if roaring would affect her abilities.
Resale is not a problem as our animals are with us for life.
Thanks again, I'm off to book a viewing
