Robinsons stores.. worth visiting?

I live fairly close to the haydock store and I keep trying but am quickly coming to the conclusion that there's no point bothering. Its convenient for buying stuff like shavings and chaff but useless if i want anything to fit my horse because she's a completely average size. I avoid it like the plague when the sales are on.

I like to wait for it all to calm down a bit then myself and a friend visit the sales (and coffee shops) at Derby House and Golden Days garden centre.:)

I live about 30 minutes from the Ashton store and I used to love it, it had a great range of quality products and I could spend hours (and a fortune!!) in there.
However, I'd say about the last 2 years it's really gone downhill and frankly I find it rather disappointing now which is a shame as it used to be brilliant.

They seem to be moving increasingly towards stocking their "requisite" own brand stuff which really isn't that good. Outside of official "sale" time though, I do like the little sale rack they have in the corner for getting some real bargains on proper branded stuff. Problem is that their move to requisite means that despite Robinsons being about 10 times the size of my local tack shop they actually often stock a smaller range of different brands for Johdpurs etc.

Wheres Oakfield? Never heard of it!
Derby House is surprisingly close to Robinsons via the M6. Only use Derby House for head collars these days though :o

It's in Leyland, so not far from Derby House.

It's what Derby House used to be like in their old store. I haven't found anyone that doesn't love it there :D.

I didn't think much of Oakfield. Went twice, mainly to check out their second hand saddles, looked round in about ten minutes and didn't buy anything. The old Derby House was fab though.

In a word, no. Unless you are looking for overpriced, poor quality 'tat' mostly in a pink hue, decorated with fluffy stuff or crystals that fall off if you look at them.

I used to get all my stuff from them about 15 years ago but now I prefer RideAway, HKM or eBay for horse kit and Derby House for breeches.

I did buy a whip holder and a set of bridle hooks off them last year .....

I love Oakfield! Shame i dont go up that way much any more i used to like to do all three DH, robbies and oakfield all in the same trip!:D

Robbies- i wouldnt bother unless youre looking for something specific, its a bit like primark this time of year- elbows at the ready!!

No - I went to the Basingstoke one - nothing in my size (5), overpriced own brands which were poor quality. Most if the other stuff I could get better quality and similar prices at my local feed merchant. Don't even get me started on the disaster that was the cafe - very rude staff, long delay for food that in the end we gave up waiting for, no apologies - manager not interested! has put me off going there ever again.

The last time i went to robbies all i wanted was a black schooling whip and a pair of muckers. Was told they don't do plain black schooling whips with no sparkley bits and got some muckers which lasted a month and a half before splitting. I wouldn't bother.
