this is really quite amazing...
in places it behaves uncanny-ly like a horse

later in the video we see a very passable piaffe!!!!

love the 'trotting down the road'
and the 'hacking in company'

and the 'getting up from a roll' is pretty realistic too... :o

although I think it would definitely benefit from a vet visit...
appears to have horrific stringhalt, arthritis etc :D

at first I thought it was demonstrating rein back, but it turns out the first section is filmed 'from behind'

what do we reckon H&H-ers...?

Hmm... he/she/it is VERY over at the knee too, not sure how well it would do in young horse classes. Also it doesn't seem to have an awful lot of respect for field boundaries!

Fab video, it's amazing what people can make these days!

My son thought this was hysterical, especially when it rolled over and stood up, then we clicked onto the sand flea robot link and nearly ended up in that weird bit of youtube.

That is weird...and amazing and a bit freaky to watch... :-/ It made me think how amazing horses are, to do all that they can do. Nature just made them that way and man has to spend £millions and years to get anywhere close to replicating it!

That says 'pig' to me rather than horse...all a bit freaky actually  The angle of its front 'feet' really bothered me. A fascinating project with real uses I'm sure, although I guess it is still vulnerable to missiles etc.

The Big Dog video REALLY freaked me out. Legs look like two humans face to face but overall like an animal, so very confusing to my brain. Really didn't like it when the man tried to kick it over, seemed so violent against a creature, obviously my brain is scrambled by this.

When it was sliding about on the ice too, really creepy. i have to go away and work out what is going on in my responses. Bascally I think that anything that remotely resembles an animal triggers all sorts of emotional reactions....

I thought that when he kicked it as well, Mum did too! I felt bad for it on the ice, I wanted to save it :P when something moves like that, it's hard not to see it as some weird animal!

That is amazing... The first video from the original poster made me feel queasy because it's legs never straightened... The 'dog' video gave me a headache, it sounded like an enormous angry wasp or mosquito. Can't imagine it doing any secretive or surveillance work yet- too noisy!!
I know what you all mean, it was like seeing a real creature. Bit like the War Horse play.

Stuff of nightmares it is!!!!

Yes, I'm afraid it is. While I'm not surprised that the military have gone down the development road on this - I originally wrote off the weapon factor when seeing similar useless contraptions in "Star Wars" - as where is the invincibility of a machine that can have the ground shot out from under it and tip over - you don't need to do a Luke Skywalker to disable it!

However, in a support role this has definate possibilities - e.g. it ain't ever intended to be a robotic horse but a supply mule for the troops. Have to do something about that engine noise though I'd pick that up at five miles and shell the hell out of it.
