Have 2 here at the moment ,neither mine.
One due to foal anytime to the young showjumper Check in so cant really comment until she foals.
The other has had 2 foals ,one by Up with the lark that was put down at 2 weeks with an unfixable problem with her front limbs.
The second filly is a yearling by Groomsbridge May I and although the similar problem arose as with the first foal it was to a much lesser extent and she has managed to make it this far.
I own the stallion and he was used as he throws excellent front limbs so if it didnt work with him it wasnt going to work with any stallion.
Mare is going back in foal this year to a part bred ID now that she has proved she can get one this far.
Personally i'm not keen on them physically but as with all these things its the proof of the pudding and all that.
The second mare evented at intermediate and was out of an advanced mare so thought to be broodmare potential.
The first mare was a late maturer but is out of a mare that competed 4*.
She will probably go into competition when her foal is weaned.
Would i have one ,not by choice as they arnt quite my type of horse.
I like something shorter and stronger as the Rock King mares seem to have very specific conformation and its not what i personally like.
But they have ability so just because they arnt my thing doesnt mean they arnt someone elses
I had a 16.2hh Rock King mare that I bred off before I broke her, she foaled 2 weeks early with a huge colt foal by Bazaars Exclusive, she foaled very easily and was a fab Mum, unfortunately mr foal was very big (17.3hh now) and had very slight sickle hocks!
The mare went on to compete intermediate and I would certainly say that they are very unique horses (!!!!) and all the RK mares I know are rather sharp!! I would have another though, I must say although she was a bit of a witch at times her son was the most sensible, well-mannered youngster and it took a grand total of 6 days to break him!!! Almost too easy!!!
I have one and adore her! Her dam was a broodmare but was a full sister to an advanced event horse.
She is sensitive but certainly not sharp! Has the most beautiful manners of any horse I know. Has had a few years maternity leave but now back in work, hasnt put a foot out of place and is going to be a school mistress to a nervous, if competant very young teenager. Temperament is second to none!
Conformation wise, she is a little over at the knee, has a lovely length of rein, a little upright at the back but jumps amazingly, huge scope. An out and out eventer, she makes a lovely picture.
Her first foal was by a nice enough stallion, ungraded. Nice filly, very bright, sold to a nice home and growing on well.
Second was a colt by graded stallion and achieved a good High First Premium at BEF Futurity as a foal. He is amazing and very very easy to do. Can send you pics if you want.
I have a Jumbo mare out of a Rock King mare. Was Elite at BEF as a foal and went on the grade SHB(GB) Head Stud Book. Has produced a lovely 1st Premium filly by Mill Law and is now just starting out under saddle and has been invited to the Equine Bridge Programme. Her dam has a lovely temperament as does she - a bit opinionated, but heaps of talent and trainability and very easy on the ground. Her dam was out of an Advanced event mare by Ben Faerie.
I aso had a Rock King mare to breed from a couple of years ago. She had evented and had staked herself and could not wear a saddle so we bred a foal by One More Tiger. It was her second foal as she was bred from as a youngster, using .This filly went BE eventing. Our colt foal was big, and achieved a BEF Higher First as a foal and won championships at county level showing. However, he developed leisons in his hocks and had to be put down as a yearling. The mare was not good with the foal in the stable or barn, but was great in the field. She was grumpy with people in the stable as well, so she was true to type! She has now gone back to the breeder and is now hunting with him, she is very happy, and so is he..........
