hi,
im meant to be competing there on the 21st, i haven't competed there before and i see that there has been a post on this before, but is it really that bad?
i saw a video of someone competing there and it looked quite dark, it this the case or just the video?
also is the warm-up area really that disastorous on anything bigger than 15.2hh?
any info.

hmm, ive decided im definitley not going there as my horse needs about 30mins to warm up otherwise it all goes wrong!!!

is it any good?
probably better than rockhampton i should think!!!
 
Gracelands is alot smarter with a better surface and much better warm ups, but still quite tight.
Mind you I jump there on my 16.2hh without much problem, deffinately better than Rockhampton.
 
I like Rockhampton.

Warm up is pretty terrible, but it's not busy and to be frank, it's still better than the warm up at the Hand!

Arena is small - but courses are well built, distances are great and horses all jump well there.
 
I really like Rockhampton, it isn't dark in the arena at all. I've won classes there on my 17.2. The Warm up is better than The Hand.

so, im now undecided!?!
some people are telling me its fine some are not, the thing is as i need to do a lot of warm up the arena looks quite tight, also as it is my first affiliated comp. id rather go somewhere with more room etc....
is rockhamptons competing arena tighter then gracelands?
 
I have never been to gracelands so cant compare sorry, the warm up isnt great, but adequate, the arena is small but functional, I have a TBX 15.2 and have jumped a 1.20 course there on him, he is however pretty easy between fences and allows me to make the most of the space available.

I guess it depends on the horse, I would never take my mare there as she can cross her jaw between fences and there just wouldnt be room to sort it out before the next jump!
 
Tis my local jumping venue, courses are brilliant and always jump well for any size of horse, arena defo bigger than gracelands. But warm-up is not best in world, but owner are very nice and friendly, which i my book counts for alot. My horses always jump well there

A friend of mine came off her horse once when he bucked after a fence; she was thrown straight into one of the beams in the centre of the school, fractured her spine

But.....my horses and ponies have actually always jumped well there, and the owners of Rockhampton are so nice, it makes you want to support them

If this is your first outing, I strongly suggest you don't pick a blue chip qualifier date, as the course is (should be) harder than a BN and its frankly generally crazy. Class numbers are huge for the BC qualifiers.
 
thanks guys- i think i will probably go. My horse isnt too phased by things liek telegraph poles! id much rather go somewhere where the people are friendly- i am only doing the 1.05m open and the 1.10m national ameteur so he will be fine on the space as he is quite a compact little horse!
thank you so much for the ids. aswell, although the warm up area doesn't look the best, it's fine for me- i don't have high standards!
also itll be good fun and a good experience for him seeing that sort of stuff!
could even make good use of the telegraph poles for flexing etc.!!!!

Please do not knock this centre. This is one of the centres that has always been there whilst other have come and gone.
Ok not the greatest but always friendly and helpful. If you have a couple of million please donate it as no doubt the owners would be grateful and use it to update their facilities.
