Hi all, I thought I would let you know how the little one is doing.
She is coming on amazing. She is eating all her hay now & I have to fill it up every day. It used to take her 3 days to get through one haynet before. Her weight is getting better & better.
I had the farrier out & we waited for the vet to arrive to sedate her, but they didn't turn up. I called them & they said that they where to busy. I was so upset they didn't turn up. BUT the farrier said he would try. She put a little fight up but soon calmed down & she was great. The vet did us a favour in the end. I would of had the vet out a few times after to sedate her for her hoofs but not now, I know she is going to be OK. They was going to do her passport for me as well. So now I have someone who does passports coming out to do it next week.

Just a couple of questions:

She as been of her Bute now for the last two weeks & since then she as got even better. I think that is down to the farrier as well.
Do I wait 4 weeks after her coming of her pain killer before going out again, or is it longer?
Also can I still feed her small amounts of the Hi-Fi with her eating her hay now or should I stop that altogether?.
I am scared that I will over do it. I never want to see anything like this again.

Also I want to make her, her own paddock in my field instead of her being right out of the way of my horse. All the horses stand at her stable gate for hours at a time. My horse rests her head on the top of it & trys to groom her. I want to put up a fence.
Does anyone know anywhere on the net for buying wooden post to make a strong fence for her to have her own paddock in the field.
I have looked at the builders yards here & found them a little on the expensive side. So I am hoping that the internet can help me out for price wise.

Many thanks again for everyones help.

I'm really glad that the pony is doing better. I don't know the answers to any of your questions though, sorry!

Thanks E_Lister,
I would love to know when she can go back onto grass. I know it will only be a small amount of grass. But I don't want to rush it.

Glad to hear pony is doing so well. The Laminitis Trust suugests that the a pony should remain on complete box rest for 4 weeks after coming sound and that means sound on tight turns on concrete not just in a straight line.

Thank you very much magicgirl.
I just got my reminder for her last injection for the tetanus. The vet is calling out in two weeks times to give her the last one. I will get the vet to look at her & check her out.
She is looking through the stable gate & starting to paw at it now. I feel so sorry for her. But there is no way I will let her out until the time is right.

You have done amazingly well and I think, by the sound of how she has improved so steadliy, that you have had a narrow squeak! However, as you seem to realise, now is often when the battle half won is abandoned and the moment the guard is dropped laminitis strikes with a vengeance. You need to get her one of these.

She won't thank you for it and you'll be on the receiving end of some soul-piercing looks, but they really are a Godsend. Here's the link - just tell her brighteyes off the forum said she has to have one! My shoulders are very broad and reproachful stares just bounce off me now.

All you need is a bit of electric fencing for a portable corral and the job, as they say, is a good 'un. Keep on with the laminitis diet for now. On behalf of all of us on here, jolly well done. You have made a life or death difference to that little pony and you should be very proud of yourself.

Thank you brighteyes :) after this post I am on my way to check out the mussle.
I had the vet out the other day to check out the foal & she looked at the little pony. She said she can go out again :D
Well I went & bought loads of electric tape, wooden poles & the box. I had help from my family & made a small paddock for her. The vet said I could made it the size I had my horse & foal in, but I made it smaller for the time being. There is more nettles in then grass lol.
I thought the wooden poles would be a lot better just in case any of the other horses broke the plastic ones down. She loved it, but I did put her back into the stable after two hours. I am going to build her up slowly before I let her stay out all the time.

I think it is me just being scared of seeing her like she was before.

Thank you all for your lovely comments, it is so nice to read them. But I know that all of you here would of done the same thing if you had her in your field at that time. She is so sweet, some times an handful lol but that is her personality. I can't wait to see her back to her old self again :D
