Have finally been allowed onto the field opposite me which has been cut for hay. I've let it green up a bit, spent most of the day sorting out fencing and water so treated myself to a bareback ride across to it this eve to take the horses there. My OH had the cheek to ask me if I'd be wearing a hat!?!? Of course I did, with bridle, but it's the first time I've ridden my new boy bareback, and I led the pony off him at the same time. Both as good as gold = BIG smile on my face tonight.

Sorry, just wanted to share!! : )

i have been schooling my boy bare back this week as he is bitten to bits round the girth area and i want to keep him in work the worst bit is getting on! but once i clamber up he is working really well if anything better than he does with a saddle and much more forward i am enjoying it and think i will make a point on schooing bareback every so often, makes you use your core muscles:eek:

I've never ridden my pony bareback because he can get quite sensitive about your balance and where you are in the saddle and if you upset him you WILL end up on the floor even if he has to turn into a rodeo horse to do so.

I have however stolen my Dad's gorgeous little 6yr old mare and plodded around on her, was pleased as punch with her. :D:o

Well done!

Bareback is one of the best exercises for you and its good for your horse. I school my mare and ride out bareback at least twice a month and boy god i know it the following day (today is one of those days) ouch.....

Keep it up :)
