I went a few years ago, amazing experience, what do you want to know? I bought tickets in the uk in advance. It's much quieter / low key than Badminton. Will try and remember where I stayed.
Thank you amanda123, do you think it's worth reserving the best tickets for the SJ? I'm trying to work out how much it's going to cost but there seems to be so many options I'm not sure what to do - there are 3 or 4 day packages but they don't include any seating in the grandstand from what I can make out.
Also is there much to do in the evenings at the park? I've been told there are 'fun' things like camel racing etc, is this true?
I haven't done much research yet but I don't know how many hotels are close to the horse park and how easy the transport in is. Any information you can give would be much appreciated.
Went over for WEG and they have now built a much better grandstand for the dressage/sj but you still need to book tickets only problem we found was that you had to book morning and afternoon tickets as times were not available when booking so could not guarentee seeing the riders you wanted to see There is plenty to see and do in the horse park they have a horse museum/gallery a celebrity horse yard which houses some of their most famous horses They also have another arena which features mounted games racing scurry driving etc and of course plenty of shopping Local hotels are plenty but book up quickly Other things to do go racing which was fab, stud open days went round three chimneys stud saw Smarty Jones Lucky we have friends over there even got to have tea with Mine that Bird's owner/breeder and a tour of their stud seeing his mum and siblings Can highly recommend the trip
Look on the Rolez website, there is a link to a list of hotels / b+b's. The one we stayed at is no longer listed, but it wasn't expensive. If you stay in a b+b rather than a chain hotel they tend to be more helpful as locals as to what else to do in the area. We went to Keenland, racing museum, painted horses parade, think it was just before the Kentucky Derby. Sent for tourist type booklets (again from Rolex website ). Tickets weren't that expensive. Loads of trade stands. Can't remember much evening entertainment but took my daughter who was only about 10 at the time. Assume you have or are hiring a car? Enjoy.
