Rolfs Animal Clinic

Just a thought, if recovery in the padded room is that risky, why don't they attach a loose sling around them or similar to prevent them falling or doing anything really stupid? I can think of perhaps why it wouldn't work, but pros might outweigh cons?

Hope he's going to be ok! :)

FW re the caring owners, I know I have been fairly poker faced when at horsepital, and when having animals pts, but that's because I go through all the what ifs and crying at home first :o

Im sorry but i wouldn't put a 13 year old dog through all that :(

Just what I was shouting, selfish owners only thinking of themselves. Poor boy, what of the pressure on his other limbs? And the recovery. Just terrible imo. People don't know when to call it a day sometimes...

i have to say i wouldnt put a 13 year old dog through that....

our 13 year old dog had a tumour on his bladder (he was peeing blood so x-rays and found a tumour)...he was pts on the table - we didnt wake him up

i agree with above - id have called it a day too :(

I don't know - some 13 yo dogs are not that 'old' in themselves and, if it's just the broken limb then you weigh up the risks don't you? I think if the vet said the leg HAD to be removed then maybe it wouldn't be fair. Having been in that situation though you want to do all you can. Sadly we couldn't with our dog as she was too badly damaged. It's a horrible, horrible thing to go through.

Ohh no I'm watching it on repeat so can't read all the replies! Fingers crossed... Shed a tear seeing his owner with him for potentially the last time :( reminded me of my boy.

Oh it's back! Sorry I'm an hour behind ;)

Just watched on repeat, was I the only one who found it funny every time Rolf pronounced hoof 'huffe' (don't know how you would spell it but you know what I mean?!) :D

Really interesting op to watch though... Hope recovery all goes well x

Haven't watched it yet but recorded for tomorrow night, but would like to say my terrier had an accident out the stables a couple mths ago, he basically was screaming and we found him hung upside down by his hind leg, he broke his leg, and severed his ligaments etc, his leg was just hanging on by the skin, we took him to the vets and 1k later he is all fixed, he will be 15 in July!!!!! He was completely sound after 3 weeks and is now back to a bubbly terrier, to look at him you would think he was 9 or 10... same with my 18 yr old terrier, my vet said he doesn't look at age, he looks at how fit and healthy the animal is, and i have to say i agree.

I love watching this programme and found Hamish's op very interesting amazing amazing people and how caring.

I also thought wow make up errr hello horse's don't care if your wearing masara or lippy blimey and allowing her into theatre too :(

So pleased when Hamish got up I was shouting at TV telling him to be careful but get up get up, I had tears in my eyes too....knowing the heart ache of saying goodbye oh god just not bear thinking about!

Long old road to recovery for him bless his heart lovely to see he had such lovely owners.

Very true! I put my 14 (nearly 15) year old woof through an op. That was a few months ago and she's just peachy now! True, it wasn't as serious as the dog on the show, but she still had to go under!

My pooches leg was worse that that one,... literally only hanging on by his skin.... honestly 2 weeks later he was nearly sound and a further week and he was as sound as a pound... amazing really, and his recovery was more or less pain free, don't regret putting him through the op in the slightest, was just the £1k vets bill i didn't like hehe
