Monday: Dropped my daughters with a great friend super early so she could take them to school whilst I went on for a 8.30 start on day one of my trailer course. All went well bar a slightly heavy right foot :o Left feeling full of confidence. Straight back to yard for Z to be vetting for sale, he failed do to a completely erratic heartbeat and atrial fribullation (sp?) :( the shock was huge, guilt the same, as I've been pushing him hard and he's super fit. The moment they said it he was no longer for sale he needs me to know him best. Days overall result :(:(:(:(

Tuesday: Tried to put Z to the back of my mind but was cacking myself about test. Especially as the town i was doing it in was about to hold a fair and all the roads were shut forcing all traffic on to the other roads, road narrowing cones everywhere and random mobile mini round abouts everywhere! Hitch was fine, reverse is my most confident bit and although doing the worst one i'd done in 2 days it was still good and no need for a shunt ;). Went for my drive and negotiated all the extra hazards mentioned above and got back to yard- I felt sick, but passed with no minors at all!!! So thrilled I can now be a more independant with out relying on Mum coming too or lifts from friends etc. Days overall result :D:D:D:D

Wednesday Thursday: despite reassurance from the visiting vet I still felt scared to ride Z so called my own vet...

Friday: Vet came and it seems i was right to be caucious/worried his heart beat has no rhythm at all even at rest. Recommended not to ride and we are referring to a Cardio specialist this week for tests. Days overall result :confused::confused::confused:

Now in hind sight I can remember times when this may have effected him in ridden work and am really worried. He's only 8 dutch WB relatively high maintenance and is not of the mindset to retire to a lazy life. I'm trying to stay positive and await what they say at Horspital - but I have this awful gut feeling...:(:(:(

HHO fibes please for what is set to be another tough week...

Although with be taking kids and ponies to a show solo on Saturday- just because i can

Thank you- realise I'm asking nothing but trying to come across calm at home and needed to get it out

Welld one on passing your trailer test. Really sorry to hear that your horse has a dodgy heart, that is horrible for anyone to hear. Hope you hear some encouraging news from the hospital. Is he there now or have you got to take him?

Just heard taking him Thursday 5.30 :(

Without knowing how loud it is, I personally wouldn't worry.

My 4yr old Thoroughbred has a dicky ticker. The vet said it's a Grade 3 of 6 heart murmur, but it's loud. You only have to put your ear near his girth area after exercise and you can hear it

He raced flat with it. We hoon about the countryside, gallop up and downhill, jump cross country fences and generally have a whale of a time :D When I first found out (didn't have him vetted when I bought him
) I didn't ride, I mollycoddled him and generally wrapped him in cotton wool. Now we're revving up to go hunting as a trial run to go eventing at some point, just for something new to do.

He loves a good charge about and yes, he is a bit out of puff after a long canter/gallop and he sounds a bit weird in his breathing, but he's fit as any other horse I know and doesn't seem bothered. I'll know if there any changes in him that I need to worry about - i've had him two years and would like to think i know him pretty well :D

He's never leaving me and he'll never be for sale so it's not an issue for me but for me, a dicky ticker isn't all doom and gloom :)

Whoopit- this is great to hear!

I don't think you can hear his and there is no murmur at all, just a completely erratic heartbeat- no rhythm at all. Sounds like a toddler clapping literally no rhythm.

I have an irregular heart beat (miles almost perfect in comparison to his though!!!) and i'm fine so i do know its not always doom and gloom but I'm still worried

Maybe he was nervous :D

Hahaha!

You're bound to worry. I did - I didn't dare make him hurry in from the field in case he pegged it! I'm convinced he knew I knew though and played on it :D Just have to carry on as though nothing is any different. Took me a few months to go back to treating him normally instead of like a handbag dog but i'm always aware of him tiring and how he feels.

He's always fine though :)

Keep us posted x

Aaawww poor you, what a stressful week for you. My anglo arab who is around 21/22 years of age has a very bad heart murmur which was first picked up on a routine MOT at age 18 years. Up until then I hadn't had a clue that he had it and we had been galloping around the countryside loving our life together. The vet advised me not to ride him but then back tracked and said as long as I didn't push him we were fine to carry on as we were. Last year she said it was 'significantly' worse and advised me again not to ride him but if I was going to then I shouldn't canter him.

Up until now we have carried on as normal. When we go out we only have an hour and if we are trotting or cantering and I think he's tiring then we come back to walk.

He may surprise you and adjust to a happy hacker lifestyle like my boy. He's highly strung but would much rather be in the field with his mates than out with me. Don't make any rash decisions. Give him a chance first. Good luck.

How did your horse get on?

My Mare has just been diagnosed with AF out of the blue, she does not have any other under lying conditions with her heart just AF.

The vet and cardio vet are extremely surprised as she is not your typical type of horse to have AF, she is having treatment next week.:( x

I have a 24 yr old hunter who had heart problems last year, the vet got the heart back into rhythm using similar technique and treatments to humans, her heart is fine now, a year on.
Its her eyes now that are dodgy! good luck with yours!
