Rolling during groundwork in menage, complete with tack???

In season mare, hock steroid injections 2 weeks ago, 5 weeks off work total. Was doing joinup when this happened. Anyone care to venture any reasons?
Vet seemed to think it was a sign she was relaxed?
 
What sort of surface were you doing groundwork on? Perhaps she just really fancied a roll on it. There was a pony at my old yard who used to do that in the lunge pen with tack on. At least he'd try but his owner would scream at him and use the lunge whip to stop him. I think he tried to do it in the arena when she was leading him to the mounting block once or twice too!

I'm not sure i'd worry too much unless she started making a habit of trying to roll with her tack on. Horses only tend to roll when they are relaxed mostly. :)
 
Same woodchip surface she's been worked on for 6 months. Wierd. Can't fathom it, I'm wondering if its a submissive social behaviour, as this was during joinup - or an evasion technique?

Also wondering if it's a sign she's out of pain from the steroid injection for her arthritis?
 
My daughters pony has done this, she just loves rolling in the sand. She'd hopped off to go adjust some jumps so lady took a roll and thoroughly enjoyed it lol.

Also so a pals shetland take a roll in the sand with his little rider still on board ! I'm not sure who was more shocked, the boy or the pony - little lad was so light I think the pony honestly forgot he was up there.

I wouldn't worry unless it becomes a habit x

I personally think this is VERY unlikely. We have a horse that rolls in the school, tacked up, sometimes even with a rider on. He's handled by lots of people so none of it has been submissive social behaviour, as he does it with everyone, :)

Probably just fancied a roll some love different surfaces to roll on, Tigger did it in the school once and it was only his second time in one!
