Roman noses. Is it just me?

Depends on how Roman and how much it suits the horse.
Makes some look very ugly whilst others very handsome.

I much prefer straight or slightly dished noses and have always avoided buying horses with pronounced Roman noses - purely my preference. :):)

I like them, though like some earlier posters I'm unlikely to ever own a horse with one because I'm an Arab person. I've got a bit of a roman nose myself though :D

My gosh I must be really common then, Eric is a half Shire! lol

Me too - I think Eric is very handsome! But I also like a good old fashioned hunter type with a Roman nose. The ugliest horse I ever knew had a Roman nose (teamed with little piggy eyes and short legs) but he was a real character and no-one who knew him will ever forget him!

:)

:D You might put up with them if you could get $10,000 for something like this! Which isn't even coloured! A very rare Gypsian ;)

Ah, I knew that it would be American. Over there they pay a fortune for anything chunky, hairy and preferably coloured. A £300 cob here would sell for $4000 or more over there, because they just love them! Probably because they aren't a native breed so they aren't as easily accessible!

My boy had a slightly Roman nose, I think it makes for a lovely noble head :)

2 photos which (kind of) demonstrate it ...

Love them on a hunter or a draft horse, not so much on little horses, finer horses or coloured cobs.

I do, however, love a coloured cob with a straight or slightly dishy nose :D

I hate proper arab dishiness though.

I too love a good roman nose. Not a dished fan but still, it depends on who is wearing it... :)

Roman nose = a common horse ? I don't think so.

Like :)

LaLa is 3/4 ID and has a pefect roman nose :)

It's made me look at her stable neighbour (dishy faced scrawny TB) with distaste (Sorry Lady! and I LOVE TB's normally :))

I'd post pics of La (if I knew how :o) and also if I did you'd all want her:D she's GAWGUS!!! :D:D:D

Moomin you have just made my day.

Viewed this cob a week ago, vetted and got it home Saturday. Only 6 and green but I like a bit of showing and it had crossed my mind she might just be good enough. She will be a maxi as she is 16h.

Good!! I think she looks lovely and very well put together.

All the best with her!:)

ETA - just saw the pic attached and I think she is probably one of the only cobs I have seen who I would be tempted to buy!

I do like a roman nose if it suits. But then I also like a straight and dished profile (Anyone see latest HHO in the showing arab section? IMO that is too extreme!).

Agree about modern day Arabs. The older type were a lot nicer to look at - they are far too exaggerated in looks now and IMO it looks horrible.

Love em
The bigger open faces get me every time
Handsome is as handsome does;)

heehee - I can't look at anything other than a lovely masculine Roman nose now, especially those heavies with an extra full bridle size - I want to smoother Eric's pink velvety part of the nose in big fat, firm kisses while scratching his ears, if I can reach!! lol:D
