I'm in love! :D

I'd quite like to have the Lusitano (IIRC) that a member on here got as a youngster, that has a roman nose. She's lovely, really baroque looking and would make a fab contrast with old seahorse head. :D

I know the one you mean and went to look for the pictures, but the ones that show her profile are no longer available :(

I have a really dish headed horse (the aforementioned seahorse head) and he has no issues at all. Breathing is top notch and no tooth trouble either. He'd be a fabulous endurance horse if he had a rider that was up to it. There was a lot of fuss a while back about an arab mare with a congenital deformity to her skull that made her have a super dished profile, but it caused her no health issues. She didn't pass the issue onto her foals.

I personally feel that while we still breed horses to be functioning athletes, then variations of skull shape aren't really that important. If the time comes where it starts to cause issues for breathing or eating, then that is a catastrophe that I hope never occurs.
It's happening in miniatures and Arabians at the moment. Some are unable to graze and must be fed other types of food. I posted here about it once but I'll try and find it again.

Somewhere I read that Arabians are not so much dished as domed!! The domed forehead allows for a decent sized brain and therefore this dish is somewhat exagerated.

That's interesting. I have heard the term 'jibbah' which I believe means large forehead, used for arabian horses.

I will be really surprised however, if my boy needs a large forehead to allow space for a big brain, bless him. :p

Thank you for answering my question .

No problem. :)

What a shame. :(

I love a Roman nose :) I am on my second lusitano-both of which have the Veiga 'bump' which is not really a Roman nose nor the really conves profile you see in some lusitanos. Makes for a lovely head imho.

This is my BFG. He's got a heart of pure gold, not a bad bone in his body. He's semi-retired now due to navicular but he still enjoys weekly hacks with his ladies and loves the odd blast across a stumble field!

Dibbin - he is lush, just my stamp.
Lancelot - love him, what a beaut.

My boy has a fab Roman nose. He is also a complete Saint, very honest and a big character. I love a good 'workmanlike' profile. Generous nose, generous heart by my book :-)

I think Graham is heading for a bit of a Roman nose... He was such a pretty baby, and his mum has such a pretty little head (13hh and in Shetland size headcollars), God only knows what Daddy looked like!
