Romania - Hell for horses

I have a Romanian horse, she is an absolute diamond of a horse.

By rights, she shouldn't be here. It is believed she was born on the boat coming over here, or shortly after. Her dam was destined for meat :(.
 
Just honestly don't understand why people behave like that with animals. I know it's all about money but why be so cruel in the process.
 
Ok I understand that in some countries the horse is a commoditiy its a source of meat fine but as with any god given animal they deserve a level of humane treatment - blatant and enjoyed cruelty sickens me to stomach - I remember watching a progrmme - sure was martin clunes -and the people he was staying with slaughtered a horse - it was quick (ok not in our world maybe not but was matter of fact no blatant cruelty for enjoyment) but most of all they had a love for the horse - it was honoured but ultimatly a source of food but still shown respect - jesus and we call the human race civilised ?????

I was there - in Timisoara after Nikolai Ceauşescu's fall from power. It was,and still is in many ways, a backward and brutalised society. A lot has happened in the last 20 years, but these are not people that you can equate with our societal norms.

If you think it is bad for horses, it really was not much better for mentally retarded children and the geriatrics.

I agree! They aren't being deliberately cruel, thjats just how they are. I has a Romanian groom for just over a year and although he worked extremely hard and willingly he had no idea on the finer points of animal husbandry. He wasn't cruel but he wasn't soft either.Some of the stories he told me chilled my blood :(
