Ok i have had Ro for 15 months and we have been trying to fix his feet (uneven growth, contracted heels and left foot and poor HPA) with the vet and the farrier.
7 months ago I wasnt happy with his progress so I got vet and farrier to bang their heads together and come up with a solution.
Before he had: D bar shoes
Now (for past 7 months) he has: Heart bars and equigel for concussion (amazing stuff!)

Would you be happy with the progress????

We did go through a stage of putting wedges on but the farrier insisted they would contract his heels even more (despite the fact he was 99% sound in these!)

Look very good, and the farrier is right about the wedges it will make the heels regress more. You are doing very well, there is light at the end of the tunnel and you shouldn't have too much further to go until he is back in normal shoes. Remember no foot no horse. .

I'm about to go through the same process as you have! Was your horse lame when he started? We have localised heel pain and need to support the foot more. We had loads of xrays done at the vets on monday so that vet, surgical farrier and my farrier can work out the best way to shoe her next week. Am peeing myself at the thought of the bill though can claim it back from insurance!

I think they look really good considering. My boy has bad feet and I always interested in others. Do you feed any hoof supplement. I have just taken Finn off of farriers formula and is now on Better for Hooves> Can already noitce the difference

Can i just ask (probably a stupid question!!) but I notice your horse stands slightly with the left foot forward. Does this mean anything as I thougth horses should stand square on both front feet?

I only ask as my mare stands exactly the same (Ive only owned her 3 months) so have niggling doubts despite her being sound??

Thanks!

Lizndibs,
yes Ro does stand left foot forwards and I just notices this a lot more today when I took pics and tried to place his fronts square...he just kept shuffling! Either he is taking more weight on his right foot on purpose or he is left handed?!

Zoob:
Ro was on Farrriers Formula for 8 months (he was actually on it when I had the first pics on it). Farrier said it wouldnt help his condition so I took him off.

Scotsmare:
Good luck! Ro was sound on a straight line and flexion tests and 3-4/10s lame when trotted on the hard on the circle.
Now, he is about 1-2/10 lame on hard circle depending on how brave he is feeling! unfortunatley we have gone through insurance and he is now over what they pay out so I am paying now.

Is the Equigel stuff really expensive??? I ask because where I hack is really stoney and merlin sometimes feels them

It looks like a comfy pair of slippers on Ro's feet

My girl gets purple gel in her front feet - its prettier! Seriously, she has very thin soles and for the past 9 months has had the gel treatment - there is a plastic pad nailed between her hoof and the shoe and the gel is squirted underneath this. I was worried at first that she would end up with thrush as her frogs are under the plastic and don't get exposed to the air but touch wood so far she's been fine. She has also been on formula 4 feet for about the same length of time and her horn quality has improved. She is never going to have great feet however and will always need a lot of management
I think your horse's feet look a lot better in the recent pictures so keep persevering
