Whilst I've dipped in and out of dressage, I am realising more and more I am a novice in this field. I've always ridden other peoples well schooled horses at prelim and novice level.

BUT I now have a beautiful baby (4 yrs old) and I'm starting from the bottom (intro) working up.

I did the first intro on Sunday and we came third. But I really would like to swat up on what the judges mark on etc etc

So what I'm asking for is websites, books ( Dressage for Dummies?? ) or DVD's which would be good for starters.

I found the absolute best way to see why the judges mark what they do is to write for them. Contact your local show centers and they will prob bite your hand off! It has been so useful doing this and I have learnt a huge amount! The marks are obv based on the scales of training, so any book that covers this will help too. Scales of Training Workbook by Claire Lilley is an essential really and Down to Earth Dressage by Carl Hester is a fab easy read too.
 
Contact your BD RDO....detaild on the BD website...for training on your area. The often include non members.
 
Definitely volunteer to go dressage writing. I find it really informative and judges will often chat to you during breaks so you can get handy advice on your horse.

BD run 'the way of going' clinics to discuss the scales, what is correct, what is not and what the judge is looking for. Includes non members.
 
'Down To Earth Dressage' by Carl Hester and Bernadette Faurie. Such a good book that explains everything about dressage from prelim to advanced and in a simplified way, was sooo helpful for my mum she's turned into a mini trainer now hahaha!
