She now just has the one, most painful looking bit, whereas she did get quite alot, the buttercups have all died, so that may be why.
Hopefully I can get rid of the last bit now

Unfortunately, when I try to treat them, it never seems to work, its a stubborn condition

looks like greasy heal to me / not mud fever, wash with hibbi scrub dry completly and apply a good blob of sudocrem

Ooh , I remember your last post about this. Thought it would be field mites but thats a fair bit bigger. Sorry, talking to myself!

Agree with quickfire x

greasy heel?
never heard of it?
If it's as the name suggests, she gets grease in her heel, then a) why? and b) why does it only happen to her in summer?
Nickie

Horses with white socks are more prone to greasy heel due to a mild sunburn type of reaction. Most commonly in long/ stalky or wet pasture. The area that gets affected often becomes cracked etc.

once its healed... if it is greasy heel have you tried turning her out in white overreaches on the feet that are affected most??

but make sure they are comfortable, you may need to vaseline the heels when you put them on to stop them rubbing...
wilmas have just started to rub her a bit, so i didnt use them, washed it off and green oiled it... i love that stuff :P

from the pics it looks like your ponio is a hairy, they can suffer from greasy heal ( as I call it, might have another name ) quite often, could be a bite from some little critter and it sort of weeps and gets crusty, but if you treat as above will soon heal.

I tried her in overreach boots last year, they rubbed within half an hour, making it worse,

I think I may get some of those turnout chaps afterall, the uv ones that are designed for photosensitive horses.

Oh what a pain. I had a chestnut arab mare with four white socks (aarrrrgh!) and she used to get that in the summer.

Snip the hair away around the edges as much as you can, daily if you can give it a gentle wash and dry then slap on some sudocrem. Honestly it should clear up pretty quick.

The sudocrem is good stuff because it moisturises as well as being antiseptic. It seems to make them more comfortable and stays put for a good while!

Have you tried Zinc and Castor oil cream? I had a mare on loan a couple of years ago who really suffered and it was my magic discovery having tried loads of other stuff! Cheap too -about £6 for a big tub if I remember correctly.

Also agree re keeping the hair short - I kept her fetlocks clipped all year and that helped a lot.

I think Zinc and Castor oil is much the same as Sudocrem but more economical?

It's amazing stuff though, I use it for all sorts. It's probably the most used product in my first aid trunk.
It's great because it stays put for so long and is thick enough to keep the flies off lol!
