I’ve used rope halters since I got a second horse and wanted to lead both together to and from the field which entailed either multiple gates ir a lane to cross (mostly quiet). I just think it gives a much clearer signal to the horse than a head collar and is safer. The number of times I’ve led someone else’s rude horse in a plain head collar that does absolutely nothing to stop it trying to drag you around.
I use a Richard Maxwell training halter over a plain head collar on my young horse and it’s the only thing (touch wood) that he hasn’t successfully pulled away in. I don’t tie up in either of the rope halters.
