We are planning on doing a few of these classes with our horse this season and I just can't see him getting much fatter than he is now. He is well fed on weight gain type food but doesn't seem keen on getting much rounder.

I don't want him to get gross anyway, just would like him to look a bit more in show condition - so if he doesn't gain much, or even any weight how much do you thnk it will go agaist him? Does anyone do these classes on a 'fit' looking horse (which is what I would term ours as) and does it go agaist you? Particularly a higher levels.

Sorry they are a bit big - have no idea how to resize!

I think he looks fantastic! I don't know much about showing I'm afraid but don't ROR classes move slightly against the grain in these? They don't mind imperfections such as scars etc and I'm sure they wouldn't expect/would prefer not to see ex racers in fat condition?

He looks fine! If a judge wanted him any fatter then i would tell them to get stuffed! Fat is so bad for the horse and you shouldnt get him fat just for a rosette imo. He looks great, i wouldnt want any more weght on him if he was mine and hopefully the judges will agree.

Your lad looks in fantasic nick. And to be honest with some good grass coming through, a bit of Dr Green will have him on the porky side to me.
I think the judges are looking for a fit healthy horse.

I think he looks really smashing, nice and fit and with enough cover. Wouldn't like to see more on him tbh. I prefer horses to be fit not lard arses!

Thanks very much everyone, just doing some online entries and was getting a bit stressy about his condition. We were parked next to a lorry with a lovely large riding horse last week and I kept looking at it and comparing it to our boy and thinking "does ours look 'skinny'?"

You've all made me feel much more positive, thanks!:)

he is bang on!! well covered enough, not "event condition" which often is a bit leaner, and not "old fashion show condition" (a.k.a. lard arses! :) ) He is beautiful and you should do very well!! :)

Well we were doing Hambleton but that may be off now, we are hoping to do GYS but are gonna test the water with North Yorks County to see if we think he will cope with the atmosphere!

Would love to see some piccies of yours and thanks for all the lovely comments everyone - we think he's fab but know we are probably looking through rose tinted spectacles!!!

just as an additional turn out point.....

I THINK (not 100% tho) that you should have a pelham/double in for RoR classes..... I know my friend who does them does have one in.

Looks fine in my knowledge of ROR/Ex Racer Club Classes - they aren't light hack or riding horse classes they are meant to reflect the breed and its athleticism arent they?

Re the pelham/double issue - he will be in a double when he does the RoR classes, he has only done 2 unaffiliated shows until now though hence the snaffle :)

Its any suitable bridle. I use a jointed pelham with double reins as mine has a small mouth and cant cope with a double. Your normal riding bridle is fine though obviously it looks smarter with a showy bridle.
