MIGHT be brave next weekend enter my first ROR. Just checking on attire really if you guys could help?

Horse
Plain tack. Snaffle bridle. Usually ride in a drop so assuming may need flash for showing. Plain browband. Event saddle with discrete numnah.
Horse plaited front and back.
Me
Tweed jacket, shirt and tie. Beige jods. Brown boots. Whip/ cane if I can find something. Gloves.
Little show of trot and canter on both reins. Short and sweet!

Most of the ones I've seen turnout has been same as Riding Horse class so coloured browbands the norm.
Tails usually pulled rather than plaited.

Cavesson noseband for showing only. No drops or flashes.

Depending on your horses build as to how you turn out. 16hh and under, very neat and petite would be a Hack so coloured browband and navy jacket. Riding horses are chunkier than hacks though not always taller and so would wear a coloured browband and tweed jacket. A heavier set tb would be turned out like a hunter, plain browband and tweed jacket. Generally you can't go wrong turning out as a riding horse though.

Breeches and long boots are correct for horse classes not jobs and short boots. Black boots for horse classes though at local level brown will be overlooked.

Cane - you don't have to carry one but it completes the look. Whips aren't the done thing in horse classes.

Gloves - brown. Never black.

Plaiting - strictly speaking the tail should be pulled but if you can plait it neatly then do so by all means. I do sometimes if I only pull the donkey out for 1 show that year.

Your individual show should include a trot and canter on both reins and an extension. My go to is: walk away from the judge, trot straight back (if your not stripping tack) trot round away from the line up, across the centre to trot the other way in a figure of 8. Back across the middle, pop into canter, round the top, across the middle - trot to change rein, pop into canter round the other way which should give you the long side to extend along in front of the judge, come back to a canter, trot, walk, halt. I HATE seeing people pull up from the extension to pretty much a halt straight away. Come down through the paces showing a few strides of each rather than jamming the breaks on.

If the judge is riding then make sure your horse has been ridden by someone else recently. I know they are ridden by anyone and everyone in training but they do adapt to single riders outside of racing and may need a refresher.

Horse usually does stressage so he has a full tail. Dont own brown gloves, will purchase some. Don't want to overspend as this will probably be our one and only!! He is thick set so will go for plain browband. Bit worried about the noseband. Nothing is ever tight on him as he is really sensitive but he does open his mouth!!

A cheap pair of brown cotton gloves will be fine. No need to spend £xx on a pair for occasional use when a pair that costs £3 will do the job.

I don't normally advise this but if the mouth opening is an issue could you tighten the cavesson a bit more? Normally I would suggest changing bits to one they are more comfortable with but in the time frame you have you may not find one.

His face is very sensitive. We have tried all sorts and he goes really nicely in a loose drop. Problem is he hates a loose cavesson as it flops and having it tighter irritates him as is on his sensitive part!! May just have to roll with it!! Think friend , who had just sold her horse, may have brwn gloves , fingers crossed!! Thank you for your advice.
