Hi, Please can those of you who show/compete in ROR classes help me out with my showing attire!

Can my tack be black?
Pelham or snaffle?
What colour gloves for me?
Is a navy jacket ok?
What make are your showing jackets?
What make are your showing boots?
Should spurs be worn?

Many thanks! :D Excited for the season ahead!

Hi, if you go on the ror official website it will give you all the info you need, as it depends what you're showing your horse as. Good luck for the forthcoming season!

It depends on what type your horse is.

Black tack is fine so long as it is clean, neat and well fitting.

Preferably Pelham or double but don't push your horse into 2 reins until they are comfortable in a snaffle and well schooled at home in the 2 reins.

Gloves should be dark brown. Never, ever black.

Navy jacket - is ok if you are showing a Hack. If your horse is under 16hh and very, very dainty then they will be a hack. Chunkier than a hack but not very heavy set then they are a Riding Horse type so would be in a tweed. A very heavy set TB (yes there are some!) would be a Hunter so again would be a tweed jacket. Your navy will be fine at local level but if you want to do qualifiers then you really need to turn out properly to type.

I have a lovely Mears jacket. Dark green keepers tweed with a blue overcheck. There are loads and loads of jackets out there. Check out the 2nd hand sites and you will pick up a nice jacket for a decent price.

My showing boots are Regents. You really should have straight topped boots with a garter strap rather than the rounded dressage topped boots.

Spurs - nope. Not allowed.

If you look at the ROR Show Series:
What should I wear?
A hard hat (with safety/kite mark) with chin strap must be worn.

Ladies: If riding a horse of hack type you should ideally wear a navy/black jacket; for those riding a hunter or riding horse type, jackets should be tweed.
Gentlemen: Tweed jackets

Breeches should be plain, fawn or buff but not white
Collar and tie with an ordinary shirt

Boots should be black or brown.
Gloves should be plain, ideally leather or string.

Evening Performances:
White or cream stocks instead of ties; gentlemen to wear black or navy jackets.
You should carry a whip – plain Malacca or leather cane not exceeding 32” in length. Schooling whips are not allowed.

Spurs should be worn.

For in-hand classes dress is as for the equivalent ridden class.

So no spurs don't HAVE to be if you're on a hot horse I wouldn't but they SHOULD be.

Black gloves should not be worn in the show ring, they may be allowed but most judges will notice and not be impressed, spurs MAY be worn they do not have to be.

This :)

Although i compete on natives, my tweed jacket is made to measure by Showing Selection and my long black boots are Mark Todd.

Please don't wear black gloves though, it's a big showing no no in any class :)
