He has moved house to a village closer to me and is now happily settled with Missy. He has been left in the field, with regular handling and then left to his own devices. No walking :)
He's got so much darker and has developed spots!

So anyway, here are pictures taken today of Mr Rorykins. :biggrin3:

use a soft tape and measure from the dent in his knee to the coronet band keeping the tape against the front of his leg so you go round all the bends and bumps whatever is measures in inches he should grow to in hands so 14.5 inches would be 14.2.

I thought foals cannon bones grow until they are a year old and then stop so might that not give a false reading as he is only 14 weeks?

Two of my three grown-up ones are bang on with this measurement but I have one awkwards one who measures 14.2hh and yet his cannon bones are a mere 12". He's the most conformationally ugly pony I've ever owned.... but I love him to pieces :)

this method works from three months old the string test has to wait until they are over a year. Of course there will be a little variation but normal horses are accurate within an inch or so
