Rosamund Green Farm XC schooling

Hi,

I'm looking for some local XC schooling, and the closest to me is Rosamund Green farm. I have one 5 y/o who will have his first season this year (have been schooling at Pontispool and Leyland Court so far this year), and a seasoned campaigner who needs to get back into things.

I can find very little about Rosamund Green Farm online, and their website is actually a little low on information - short question, is it worth the trip (their website sells it as such, of course)?

When I asked about this last year I seem to recall being told that it is aimed at PN upwards. Excellent place, apparently when you ring to book you get interrogated to check you're competent enough.

Didn't think Leyland Court was open yet?!
 
There is a huge variety of fences and worth the trip. What I would say is that it is in a relatively small space so lots to look at and no chance to get a xc rythmn going
 
I took advantage of LC's portables-in-arenas setup to show the youngster a range of different fences (his jump is very scopey, he just needs to not be scared of new things - very worthwhile trip actually).

This is the thing that's confused me, in what I did find (which did include your thread from last year, I believe) was that some claimed it to be PN and up, and other information says it's ideal for youngsters.

Well, I'll give them a ring - I don't mind an interrogation, no skin off my nose if I'm deemed inappropriate!

That would actually be ideal for the youngster - he finds it very easy to open up, so having to focus on what's there, despite what else is about, is just what he needs. Thanks for the input.

oh of course. Was hoping you know something I don't as not expecting the course to open til April - it's usually my place of choice for water schooling as so convenient from the wrong side of the Severn Bridge!
 
See I would only take a more experienced horse and instead go to Pontispool and SLM with a young horse. I use Rosamund to refine things or practice a particular kind of fence. If something goes wrong or you want to give them a bit more confidence then there is not enough to fall back on where as there is at SLM and Pontispool.
 
At Rosamund you will meet a huge variety of fences, there isn't much that is tiny small, but there are small ditches and trakenners to practice over.

Depending where you are Downlands at Warminster is a nice course for novice horses.
 
Depending on which side of Shepton Mallet you are Toomer Farm nr Templecombe might be worth a look:

I've not been schooling, but have done a hunter trial there. They have lots of small fences, a water and the from what I remember LOTS of ditches. Most of the fences are built with the same fence in varying heights next to each other, so you can start with the tiny one and work up.

Might be worth a look if you are looking for something smaller, they advertise fences up to 3'6", but if you want big stuff I would personally go to SLM instead.

Do they have ditches infront of palisades at Toomer?

Would like to introduce my girl to a small ditch palisade after having issues with the one at Leyland Court which is fairly substantial for a horse that has never seen one before so want a baby version to school over. We did get over the one at LC but it wasn't pretty!
 
There are some pictures of the fences on the website.

From what I remember there was definately an open ditch, a tiger trap with a ditch underneath, and an upright with a ditch in front, both about 2'6". Also a couple of drops with a ditch away.

Can't remember a palaslade with a ditch in front, but it was 18 months ago, so there might be now. Give them a call and ask.
 
I have been - and been amused by the rather 'condescending' attitude of the owner when I booked. The water was ok, the steps far too steep for a baby, a reasonable selection of other fences, but the bulk of them 3ft & above.
I'd go for an outing, but only if I couldn't go to Leyland Court, SL or Pontispool.
It is nice and compact if you are taking more than one & don't want to have walk miles.
