I've found it hard to adoringly love Rosie the way I did with Jack, but understand I'm still grieving. However her presence has made me think fowards, and last night that "My God, I love you" moment came... she has these huge liquid eyes which just suck you in. I think taking my time in it all has ben a good thing becaus the urge to cuddle her 24/7 and 'mother' her isnt there, which will prevent the separation thing I had with Jack. She adores OH (and myself!) and is equal with us both. I'm pleased about that and hope it continues. Don't get me wrong, I love her to bits, but she isnt the centre of my attention the way Jack was, and I hope you can understand why that's a good thing (if you remember the problems I had with jk being my 'baby'). I'm being much more sensible this time and allowing her to be a pup and to understand that she has a place in this pack... and that it isnt at the top
She's done quite a bit this week, she's a confident happy girl who loves people and has taken everything in her stride. She's been into town (in my arms on a quiet day) to the school gates (I hid her in my coat so 90% of the kids didnt see her) and been on a bus. I think her favourite thing was the yard, where she raced round the field, yapped at Micks and fell over a few pony poos
Th first few days she yapped whenever I left her, and she was so so loud
the neighbours complained
. Me being me, I whittled about it. I worked through ignoring it for three days (walking off, leaving her, waiting for the barking to stop then going and rewarding her when she was quiet) only she never was quiet, the barking would be as soon as you left the room and could go on for ages. So back to my friend and we tried plan B. Which is: as soon as she starts barking, hand up in a 'stop' signal and a high pitched squeak. It works
, she was initially startled by the noise, and would stare at me asif to say "eh??" but as soon as she was quiet it was a "goooood girl!!!" and in just two days over this weekend she's learnt
the neighbour commented this morning how quiet she was. I'm so so pleased
she's a fast learner
.
We're working on 'come' and she'll do anything for a treat. I have relented and let her sleep in my bed, sometimes she chooses to sleep in her bed next to mine, but always ends up under my duvet snuggled up to me. I don't mind one bit, and we've talked about it and don't mind it long term.
anyway a few pics. I havent many because my phone's broken
so have had to nick OH's
"yes? can i help you?"
"is that, like, a giant treat?"
"yes, I've huge paws and you know what that means don't you?.... big brains..."
"of course, those brains do need plenty of rest"
"and then some..."
"so, if you don't mind, please do not disturb"
"because being eleven weeks old is such hard work"
